The Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre opened in May 2007 and is Scotland’s largest cancer centre and the second largest in the UK. The Centre has undergone unprecedented investment and our clinical teams provide oncology services to a catchment population of 2.6m people across 4 Health Board areas. The equipment in the new Centre is state-of-the-art and incorporates into our portfolio of available technologies, image guided radiotherapy (IGRT), IMRT and stereotatic radiotherapy. Currently Greater Glasgow and Clyde offers ultrasound services to approximately 110,000 ultrasound scans per annum. There are three large departments at Southern General Maternity Hospital, Princess Royal Maternity and Royal Alexandra Hospital, with smaller departments at both Inverclyde Royal Hospital and Vale of Leven Hospital with a total of 21 scanning rooms and there are an additional 13 outreach scanning clinics within community settings. Fetal anomaly screening has recently been introduced and we will be expanding the screening service further to implement CUBS screening by 2011, and we are looking for a Radiographer or Midwife Sonographer to join our forward thinking team. You will be HPC registered or equivalent and hold a post registration qualification in Obstetric and Gynaecology Ultrasound . You will be a flexible team player with excellent communication skills and be able to undertake all types of Obstetric and Gynaecological scans to a high standard in keeping with departmental guidelines. If appointed as a trainee you will be HPC or NMC registered, hold a D.C.R or BSc in Radiography or equivalent with significant clinical experience. You will have good hand eye coordination and knowledge of cross sectional anatomy. Good IT skills would be an advantage. This Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon post will be primarily based at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, Paisley. You will join 9 Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeons at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. We are seeking a suitably qualified Orthopaedic Surgeon with an interest in Trauma and whose skills will complement the needs of the Unit. You will initially participate in the on-call Orthopaedic rota of 1:8 for out-of-hours cover including weekends at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. The Royal Alexandra Hospital is a busy District General Hospital situated 9 miles west of Glasgow. Based in West Glasgow, you will form an important and integral part of a multi disciplinary team providing a general adult service to adults aged between 18 and 65 years and will work with the Community Mental Health Team, the in patient team and the Crisis Team. The associated inpatient beds are based at Gartnavel Royal Hospital. You will be expected to work closely with colleagues to provide a full range of services to the out patient population suffering from psychiatric illness. AMP status is desirable, otherwise it is expected that you will complete Section 22 Mental Care and Treatment (Scotland) Act Training and approval as soon as possible. You will liaise with the parent ward, Community Mental Health Teams, Crisis Teams and Mental Health Officers and would attend Mental Health Tribunals. Excellent communication skills are essential. The post is linked to active teaching programmes and continuing professional development, audit and research are encouraged and supported. You will have a core clinical qualification e.g. nursing, clinical psychology, occupational therapy, social work or equivalent. Experience of assessing and managing complex mental health conditions including treatment resistant depression and a high level of knowledge and experience of delivering Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is also essential. TEMP You will be responsible for co-ordinating, supporting, managing and implementing Research and Development studies and activities supported by the Glasgow Clinical Research Facility (CRF), ensuring that these projects are developed and coordinated from the initial enquiry through all the approval processes. This will include internal Glasgow Clinical Research Facility approvals, launching the projects and subsequent monitoring of process. You will provide clinical investigators from professional groups with expert information, practical assistance, and the resources they require for clinical research, which include resourcing and staffing assistance, preparation of trial paperwork and assistance with applications for the necessary approvals required for each study. You will also provide on-going management of recruitment and follow-up of participants, oversight of quality assurance, data collection and management and assistance with study closure and archiving of materials. Managing and supporting research projects in accordance with Research Governance, all applicable regulatory requirements, and, if applicable, with standards as outlined in Good Clinical Practice regulations will also be an important part of your role. Applying sound project management techniques to ensure that all investigators using the resources of the Glasgow CRF have access to high quality clinical research project management services, you will co-ordinate resources, including staff, equipment and facilities to support clinical research activity to meet objectives as defined by Glasgow CRF senior management team. Line managed by the Senior Project Manager who will allocate research projects, you will have close links with and will work in team partnership with colleagues in clinical research nursing, administration, education and training within the CRF, with research co-ordinators within the Research and Development Department of the Health Board and with the clinical study teams. You will be educated to degree level or equivalent in Nursing/Bioscience/Social Sciences or other suitable discipline. Extensive clinical research experience is required in commercial and non-commercial studies together with extensive working knowledge of regulations governing clinical trials and a comprehensive understanding of current UK wide research infrastructure. Your shift pattern will be Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, with occasional on-call if required. We are seeking a clinical scientist to join the Imaging Section of the West of Scotland PET Centre for an exciting opportunity to gain in-depth experience working in the rapidly growing field of PET-CT. The main duties will be supporting the scientific development of this expanding service, developing and managing quality assurance systems and contributing to research activities of the department. The provision of support for the West Glasgow Nuclear Medicine service will also be an important component of this role. This job would be ideal for a Nuclear Medicine Physicist looking to develop their skills in this important area for the future, and though prior experience in PET imaging is desirable, it is not necessary and training will be provided. A 1st class or 2:1 Honours Degree in Physics or other equivalent Degree/Qualification is required. A PhD in Physics or Medical Physics is expected. Membership of a Professional body (e.g. IPEM) at an appropriate level is required. State registration as a Clinical Scientist is required. Substantial experience in Clinical Physics, with relevant advanced training in PET or Nuclear Medicine is essential. This can include research or other equivalent work.
