The latest digital signal processor (DSP)technology powers IP phones, ensuringthat every device is capable of maximumperformance. The IP phones share thedata network with PCs and servers, butdon’t use the PCs or servers for voicetraffic. It's like operating two cars onthe same multi-lane highway—even if thePC stalls, the voice traffic is able to passby unimpeded.
Easy to Install, Use, and Manage3Com understands that most telephonesystems seem like a mystery to everydayusers and often to the staff assigned toadminister them. The result is often lostproductivity and lost opportunity.
An incredibly intuitive administrativeportal, 3Com NBX NetSet™, lets individualusers and administrators fully customizethe NBX 100 solution. This password-protected, browser-based utility featurespull-down menu choices tailored to eachfacet of the system. Time-saving toolssimplify creation of departmental profilesfor managing telephone users, furthereasing system administration.
3Com voice communications technologycompletely eliminates the high costs andhigh anxiety normally associated withmoving an office telephone. Anyonewho has ever had to wait days for anexpensive service call merely to get atelephone moved will truly appreciate theself-locating capabilities of 3Com IPphones. Simply unplug a phone from onelocation and plug it into another networkjack. The user’s extension number, voice mail, and personal settings movewith the phone. It's that simple.
NBX NetSet gives users control over frequently neededcapabilities, such as customizing speed dials or creatingoff-site notification for new or urgent voicemail messages.
Open ArchitectureNBX solutions use standards-basedinterfaces to assure easy integration ofnew applications. From a foundation ofIEEE 802.3 Ethernet that lets users plug3Com IP phones into millions of Ethernetports around the world, customers caneasily grow their communications networkby adding industry-standard switchesand routers, expanding capabilities andsize to meet evolving needs. 3Com NBXsystems provide application flexibilitywith support for standards such as:
• IMAP4—enables viewing and listeningto voice mail with standard e-mailclients (e.g., Microsoft Outlook, Eudora).
• TAPI—lets users dial numbers andmanage active calls from a computerscreen with built-in computer tele-phony integration (CTI).
• TAPI/WAV—supports seamless connections to call center and unifiedmessaging applications.
3Com Voice Solution Providers offernumerous out-of-the-box software aswell as applications for custom businessrequirements. Actively supported by3Com, a host of third-party developerswork to enhance the capabilities ofNBX systems.
Upgradeable SoftwareTraditional PBX products often requirecustomers to pay extra for capacity thatmay never be needed or for capabilitiesdesigned originally for large systems. The NBX 100 solution offers pay-as-you-grow scalability, economical fortwenty users and powerful enough formore than a thousand users per site.Business needs inevitably change, so this3Com solution is software upgradeable foreasy expansion and maximum flexibility.New functionality, even documentation, can be available in minutes and auto-matically distributed to every systemdevice and user. When business needsdictate additional capabilities, they canbe added simply with software licenses.

NBX Release 5.0 Software Advantages
Zone Paging: To eliminate the need for externalsoftware/hardware for zone paging, administratorscan customize their NBX 100 system by creatingup to nine paging zones. They can disable pagingon individual phones and define zone member-ship so that only members can page their owngroup and only members can view the otherpeople in their zone.
Personal Operator: Another advanced featureof the NBX 100 solution, users can choose aphone number to be their call coverage ratherthan relying on a default system operator. Callerscan be given the option of contacting a live per-son in the event they are transferred to voicemail. NBX NetSet lets users easily define thenumber as an internal extension or external phonenumber, such as a cell phone.
Automatic Call Distribution (ACD): WithACD, businesses can efficiently track incomingcalls to operators, an 800 number used for sales,or a service department that needs to evenly dis-tribute incoming calls to agents. The standardACD package includes two agents, expandableup to a total of 199 agents and 100 supervisors.Call monitor/whisper/barge-in capabilities allowsupervisors to assist agents as needed; historicalreporting can help optimize call center staffingduring peak hours.
