• 1870-1910: The bicycle was seen as a technological object in

China, but was mainly used by foreigners.

• 1910-1930: More people began using the bike, though this

activity was limited to coastal commercial cities where there

was a strong foreign influence.

• 1930-1949: The establishment of a domestic bicycle industry

allowed for price cuts, enabling more people to own a bike.

• 1949 onwards: The support from the Communist government

further increased the number of bike users.
