Mission Statement We, the faith community of St. Colette, in proclaiming the truth of the Gospel are committed to follow Jesus Christ by being ”the salt of the earth” and “the light of the world”. By our Baptism we are called to serve people of all cul-tures, migrants, and those who have no voice of their own; our born and unborn children; victims of violence, and the impoverished. Empowered by the Holy Spirit and nurtured by the Eucharist, we are led to promote human dignity and justice for all people. We believe that this is the way the Lord is calling us to be a sign of His kingdom in this time and place.

From the Pastor

Joy......... There is joy involved especially when what we are waiting for is such a special moment in life; say waiting for the communion minister to bring Jesus to your home, waiting for the new addition to be born in the family, waiting for the wedding day, waiting for the first moment of seeing each other at Thanksgiving after months of being away from each other, waiting for that moment to be with a family member coming back home from an assignment in foreign land, etc. It is not always the case but moments of waiting could evoke strong feelings of joy at heart. This weekend we light the pink candle, and it is the Third Week of Advent where the central theme is to celebrate Joy. Gaudete Sunday, it is called. It celebrates the joy of the Messiah coming to dwell among us, God inserting himself among humanity. What a reason for us to be happy and wait impatiently for the joyful celebration that our world is privileged to have. The second reading highlights that with an agricultural experience thus...“See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, being patient with it”. Joy has a waiting moment at its core, waiting to break open and blow up every cell of our being. It is God's gift designed to give profound human experiences. Christmas is such a special time for us faithful and with festive holiday season embedded, the spirit of joy is in the air, in peoples' hearts, in the electronic messages we send to each other, the cards we write, the gifts we exchange, prayers we say and the carols we sing! Joy is intrinsic, Joy is indescribable and intangible yet so real and so powerful that when one has it – it just shows. Let Joy fill your life – Cherish it and share it whole heartedly – it is divine! Jesus - Lord of all, source of all Joy and Prince of Peace – Pray for us Lord.

Peace,

Fr. Mahonge

Paz, P. Mahonge

Hospital Visits As of October 16, 2019, we are no longer receiving patient census lists from Northwest Community Hospi-tal. These lists were provided to our parish and various parishes in the area to inform them that a member of their parish community was in the hospital. Northwest Community Hospital has made this decision after “evaluating and updating our practices to maintain HIPPPA and protect the privacy of our patients.” We respect this decision. However, that means we must solely rely on you, our parishioners, to inform us of hospital visits. Therefore, we ask you to please call the Parish House Office at (847) 394-8100 to let us know if you or a loved one would like a visit from St. Colette Parish. We desire to provide comfort & peace during all mo-ments of our parishioners’ lives and especially while they are hospitalized. We thank you for your support in this endeavor.

Matching Gift Program We have a 2-for-1 matching gift program for schools run by the Archdiocese of Chicago. For every dollar designated to a qualifying school through Empower Illinois between December 1, 2019 and February 29, 2020, the school will receive two dollars in matching funds. The donations are capped at $50,000 per school. If you donate $1,000 and designate St. Colette School, your donation will have a net cost of $250, remember you get $750 back on your state taxes and your donation will provide a total of $3,000 to St. Colette School, to use for student scholarships. After April 1, 2020, any matching gift program funds that are not awarded at a designated school will be reallocated to eligible students at schools with unmet demand. Donors who would like to receive the tax credit for their 2019 taxes should begin the process prior to December 16, 2019 to ensure that they have enough time to make their gift by December 31, 2019. If you choose to make your gift in January or February, you will be able to claim your tax credit on your 2020 tax return. This is a wonderful opportunity to help our school and support the mission of providing a quality Catholic education to students in our community who may not otherwise be able to afford it. For more information please visit

archchicago.org/tcs or call 312.534.2617. Just so you know, should the Cardinal decide to close our school (decision looming on January 13, 2020), all donors will be given the opportunity to have their donation designated for a different school of their choice.

Parish Office Notice

A beautiful Thanksgiving of Giving

We have so much to be thankful for at this time of year. The generosity of our Parish has been constant and allowed us to empty our pantry for the Thanksgiving Giveaway. Although Thanksgiving Giveaway was lit-tle more than 2 weeks ago, our Pantry is once again flourishing in preparation for the Christmas Giveaway to our families and St. Basil/Visitation. Thank you to the FOCUS teens and leaders, Share Faith Jr. High and families who spent the morning sorting, packing and distributing bags of food to our families. Thank you to our Principal Joe Quinlan for inviting the families to benefit from the clothing drive organized with Rep's Restaurant. Thank you to Deacon John Connor as our inspiration of a true Servant and to Estela Paz for serving our Spanish speak-ing families in coordination of the Pantry Ministry. We all who serve are humbled by the outpouring of gener-osity of our Parish community. AGAIN THIS YEAR, A SPECIAL THANKS TO Rep's Place! Once again serving our Par ish Com-munity through providing delicious full Turkey Dinners to 13 Families which supplied 52 meals. This is just one of the many ways, owner, Mike Reppe, Jennifer and their staff again and again give back to the community of Rolling Meadows. Thank you to all who worked to "make this happen!" Because of many people putting an effort in behind the scenes, our families enjoyed a wonderful filling meal. God id Good! Lastly, a special thanks to those on Thanksgiving morning who lovingly set-up the PADS site and our neighboring PADS site at UCC so those that are displaced from housing at this time could come together in com-munity, enjoy the warmth of friends, feast on delicious food and have a restful evening. Let us be thankful for the opportunities given to us to love our brothers and sisters in Christ!

"Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with the Lord’s

people who are in need. Practice hospitality." Romans 12:10-13

To Parents: Kairos, the Lord’s time, is a Christian expe-rience of prayer and reflection run by a team of adults and students. This is a rare time in a teen’s life to step back from stress and pressure to gain some perspective and in-sight on what’s important in their lives, all in a safe and fun environment. To the Teens: Why? This is the question you should really ask! Why should I spend time reflecting on my life at a retreat? It is hard to know until you have tried. Maybe you are scared about going off to college. Maybe you are trying to decide if you want to go to college. Maybe you are searching. Maybe you are stressed and distracted. Maybe you don’t know if God really cares. Maybe you need time away to reflect and re-energize. There are so many reasons those who have already gone on Kairos could give you about why you should go, but first you have to choose to trust them. Thousands of teens go on Kairos each year. They go and discover who they really are and how they want to live. So clear your school, sports, work schedules NOW! They come for their own reasons. All leave changed. Maybe the best reason to go is that someone cares enough about you to invite you. Talk to past Kairos participants, youth ministers or priests and ask them why. Even if your decision is not to go, you owe it to yourself to explore why so many people consider that a retreat is an essential experience in your life.

Be Bold and Courageous, Take a Chance!!
