Dear Colleague:

On behalf of Andrew Fisher, President of the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation,

the ISHLT Board of Directors and the 2018 Scientific Program Committee, I have the honor of inviting

you to attend the Society’s 38th Annual Meeting and Scientific Sessions to be held on April 11-14, 2018

in the lovely city of Nice in Southern France.

For this meeting, we return to The Acropolis Congress Center nestled in the heart of Nice, just 15 minutes

from the airport.

We hope to build on the tremendous success of the 2017 Annual Meeting in San Diego, CA, USA,

the best attended annual meeting in our Society’s history, by continuing to offer both research presentation

sessions and 31 exciting symposia throughout all four days of the Nice Meeting.

The majority of the meeting will be devoted to submitted scientific content. In anticipation of your

contribution of high quality, novel scientific work, we plan to schedule a total of 54 oral sessions to show-

case work described in the highest scoring submitted abstracts. In addition, mini-oral sessions and

general poster sessions are planned to share research with all attendees.

Abstracts will only be accepted online. A link to the abstract submission site is available on the ISHLT

website (ishlt.org/meetings/abstracts.asp). The abstract submission deadline is October 24, 2017 at

11:59 PM Eastern Daylight (North America) Time.

We especially encourage the submission of work by your trainees and young investigators, the best of

which will continue to be highlighted in the Philip Caves Award competition, the Nursing, Health

Science and Allied Health Excellence in Research Award competition, the Early Career Scientist Award

in Transplantation competition, the Junior Faculty Clinical Case Dilemmas in Thoracic Transplantation:

The Best of the Best Award competition (see details in this brochure), and as featured abstracts and posters.

I look forward to receiving your abstract submissions and welcoming you all to Nice, France, for the

38th ISHLT Annual Meeting and Scientific Sessions!

With best regards,

Christian Benden, MD FCCP

LATE BREAKINGCLINICAL SCIENCE

S U B M I S S I O N A R E A

The Late Breaking Clinical Science abstract category is intended to facilitate the presentation ofhigh impact multi-center studies or particularly provocative single center investigations. In general, suchstudies would include prospective, randomized trials that seek to investigate new approaches to the diagnosis and/or treatment of cardiothoracic diseases relevant to the field and that have the potentialto alter our contemporary treatment paradigm.

Abstracts presenting an interim analysis of clinical trial data will not be accepted unless the intentionto conduct an interim analysis was predetermined in the trial protocol before the study commenced.

The content for LATE BREAKING CLINICAL SCIENCE abstracts should include:

i. Summary of objectives

ii. Methods

iii. Endpoints

Please use the Late Breaking Clinical Science (LBCS) submission link (found on the main page fo thesubmission site) to submit an abstract in this area. The abstract submitted by the October 24, 2017deadline will serve as a placeholder for the final abstract.

Final analysis of the study results and conclusions MUST be submitted to Susie Newton ([email protected]) at the ISHLT headquarters by March 14, 2018. Failure to submit this databy the deadline may result in the withdrawal of the abstract from the program. This analysis will beseen only by a closed panel to ensure complete confidentiality of the results prior to presentation. Theprogram committee chair in consultation with the program committee reserves the final decision regardingscheduling of Late Breaking Clinical Science presentations. An invitation to give a presentation basedon a submitted abstract cannot be withdrawn simply because the results do not conform to expectations.

NOTE: If you wish to have a revised version of your abstract with more detailed study findings published inthe abstract supplement to the JHLT, ISHLT MUST receive a revised version of the abstract reflecting themore detailed findings NO LATER THAN January 26, 2018.

SUBMIT AN ABSTRACT: ishlt.org/meetings/abstracts.asp

To assure that truly “late breaking” information is included in the meet-ing, authors may submit abstracts describing trials and studies that arenot yet completed as of October 24, 2017 but WILL have results andconclusions available by March 14, 2018. Studies which have resultsand conclusions by October 24, 2017 will not be considered latebreaking and should be submitted in one of the General Abstract categories.

Content Validity and Fair Balance: Authors are required

to prepare fair and balanced presentations that are objective

or justification of a patient care recommendation must con-

form to the generally accepted standards of experimental de-

sign, data collection and analysis.

Use of Generic vs. Trade Names: Abstracts must use sci-

collaborators, exceptions to this policy MAY be considered

on a case by case basis. After all abstracts have been se-

lected, ISHLT will initiate this process by communicating with

the primary author of any abstracts which list an industry em-

ployee, owner or patent holder as first author, presenting au-

thor, senior author or primary author of an abstract.

Conflict of Interest Disclosure: Disclosure of all relevant

financial relationships is required by all abstract authors. Full

and complete disclosure for EVERY author must be submitted

with the abstract. It is the responsibility of the individual sub-

mitting the abstract to obtain and provide complete and ac-

curate disclosure information for each author listed on an

abstract. Each individual author is responsible for the accu-

racy and completeness of the disclosure information submitted

on his/her behalf.

If no relevant financial relationships exist for a given author, this

must be stated. Failure to provide complete disclosure informa-

tion will result in disqualification from participation in the ed-

ucational activity. This requirement is intended neither to imply

any impropriety of such relationships nor to prejudice any indi-

vidual presenter or author. It is merely to identify such rela-

tionships through full disclosure and to allow ISHLT to assess and

resolve potential influences on the educational activity prior to

the planning and implementation of an educational activity.

Financial relationships are those relationships in which the individual benefitsby receiving a salary, royalty, intellectual property rights, consulting fee, hono-raria for promotional speakers’ bureau, ownership interest (e.g., stocks, stockoptions or other ownership interest, excluding diversified mutual funds), or otherfinancial benefit. Financial benefits are usually associated with roles such as employment, management position, independent contractor (including contractedresearch), consulting, speaking and teaching, membership on advisory committeesor review panels, board membership, and other activities from which remunerationis received, or expected. ACCME considers relationships of the person involvedin the CME activity to include financial relationships of a spouse or partner. TheACCME has not set a minimum dollar amount for relationships to be significant.Inherent in any amount is the incentive to maintain or increase the value of therelationship.

With respect to personal financial relationships, contracted research includes research funding where the institution gets the grant and manages the fundsand the person is the principal or named investigator on the grant.

Circumstances create a conflict of interest when an individual has an opportunityto affect CME content about products or services of a commercial interest withwhich he/she has a financial relationship. The ACCME considers financial rela-tionships to create actual conflicts of interest in CME when individuals have botha financial relationship with a commercial interest and the opportunity to affectthe content of CME about the products or services of that commercial interest. The ACCME considers “content of CME about the products or services of thatcommercial interest” to include content about specific agents/devices, but notnecessarily about the class of agents/devices, and not necessarily content aboutthe whole disease class in which those agents/devices are used. With respect tofinancial relationships with commercial interests, when a person divests them-selves of a relationship it is immediately not relevant to conflicts of interest but itmust be disclosed to the learners for 12 months.

A commercial interest is any entity producing, marketing, re-selling, or distrib-uting health care goods or services consumed by, or used on, patients. TheACCME does not consider government agencies or providers of clinical servicedirectly to patients to be commercial interests.

Abstract Reviewers, Board Members, Committee Members, Scientific Council Operating Board Members and Workforce Members, Taskforce Participants, Authors, and Guidelines Developers are not permitted to receive any direct remuneration or gifts from any commercial entities for any activity in which theyare an official representative or a participant on behalf of the Society, norshould they be subject to direct input from a commercial supporter regardingany such activity.

Abstract ReviewAfter the submission deadline, completed abstracts will be peer reviewed.Incomplete abstracts cannot be processed and will not be reviewed. Toensure the integrity of the review process, revisions will not be acceptedafter the submission deadline – no exceptions. All abstracts will beblinded for review, i.e. reviewed without knowledge of the author(s),institution(s) or disclosure information; therefore, as indicated in theabove policies, abstract content should not include the authors, institution information or commercial trade names.

Notification of Acceptance or RejectionPresenting authors of all submitted abstractswill receive a status notification of acceptanceor rejection no later than December 20, 2017.

On January 8, 2018,presenting authors of all accepted abstracts will receive a presentationinvitation including pre sentationdate, session assignment andformat (oral, mini oral orposter presentation).

All presentations must be confirmed by January 26,2018.

WithdrawalsWithdrawal of an abstract from the program

should occur only in exceptional circumstances, aswithdrawal of an accepted abstract deprives

another team of investigators of the valued opportunityto present. The presenting author of an accepted

abstract may withdraw their abstract by following theappropriate link in the presentation invitation. All with-

drawals must include the reason for withdrawal and thepresenting author must confirm that the decision was made

collectively by all co-authors.

Withdrawal deadline: January 26, 2018

ISHLT reserves the right to withdraw abstracts that are in violationof the Society’s policies and guidelines outlined in this document.
