Rise and Shine Light up your mornings to give yourself a boost of bliss. Exposing yourself to sunlight for a few minutes when you first wake up sends your body and brain an energizing wake-up call. Face a window or step outside for some natural morning light, which scientists say not only benefits mood, but also metabolism, immunity and sleep patterns. Come and join us on the deck for our spring outdoor programs. Our gardening group will be starting up; we will be planting herbs for our kitchen to use as well as cut flowers for all of us to enjoy. A Note From Our Nurse As we age many things change that we never thought about or took for granted such as, vision, hearing, sleep patterns, reaction times, medication metabolism and of course mental alertness. Many if not all of these changes can cause serious falls. Many seniors are afraid of falling, and with good reason. According to the National Council on Aging, 1 out of 4 Americans over the age of 65 fall yearly, and more than 2.8 million of them are treated in emergency rooms. Falls are the leading cause of fatal injuries and the most common cause of nonfatal trauma, such as fractures. Fear of falling prevents the elderly from participating in routine life activities which, in turn, decreases their quality of life. Isolation and depression often follow. The major cause of falls are Vision loss, Hearing loss, Specific medications, Osteoporosis and Diabetic Neuropathy. Many of these causes can be prevented with proper medical attention and follow up. Families should always follow up on all recommendations the physicians have offered in order to ensure the best quality care for their loved one. Any concerns or questions, please don’t hesitate to call the Wellness Center. We’re here to make your loved one’s stay pleasant and safe. Lauren Wieder, RN Wellness Director

Mary Ann C. wowed us with her singing skills! We had such a fun Sing Along! It was nice to hear so many of our talented residents singingwith us!

The Residents of the Promenade enjoyed our weekly game of Pokeno; lots of laughing and fun were had by all.
