Fulfilling the duties of a Father towards Son

• Robinson Crusoe is in want of a company when he sees the cannibals having a feast occasionally at his island during the fall of night.

• Although , Crusoe has fear of loosing his life , he makes up his mind to save the captive from the monstrous Cannibals.

• Crusoe is given a chance when he actively displays his mighty strength and is successful in saving the victim.

• Crusoe names him as Friday and gives him an identity .

• Thus, we can conclude by saying, Crusoe is the guardian of Friday.

Different concepts that creep up

• Here, we see Crusoe as a colonizer and Friday as a colonized - subaltern .

• Crusoe knowingly or unknowingly becomes the master of Friday when he teaches him ‘Master’ as the first word in English.

• He preaches him about the Christianity.• By the concept of teaching Christianity, Crusoe wants

to reform Friday. This is the typical mind-set of every colonizer.

• Here, we can see another relationship taking birth. That is of a teacher and a disciple . Crusoe becomes his teacher when he is preaching about Christianity.

• Next, we see Crusoe as a Imperialist who wants to expand the domain of his Kingdom and rule on his subjects – Friday, the Captain etc.
