1 ADMINISTRATION SECTION Policy: 3.7 EVALUATION OF THE SUPERINTENDENT It is the responsibility of the School Board to maintain and improve the quality of administra ti on and instruction. The Superintendent's effectiveness is essential to this responsibility. Annually, the Superintendent will provide to the School Board a work plan designed to implement the goals set for the division by the School Board. The Board will formally ev aluate the Su perintendent each year th roug h th e use of a cooperat iv ely de ve lo pe d in strument wh ic h adequately measures his/ her accomplishments under the work plan. In fo rmal ev al ua ti ons ma y al so ta ke pl ace as th e Bo ar d de ems appropriate, pr ovided th at spec if ic criteria for such appraisals be communica ted to the Superintendent. Each Board member will be involved in assessing the Superintendent's  job performance on a continuing basis and by completing the formal evalu atio n instru ment. Upon con clus ion of the annua l perfor mance appraisal, the evaluation will be reviewed with the Superintendent by the Board or  by a designated committee of its members.  The School Board will incorporate in its evaluation instrument uniform performance standards and criteria as developed by the State Board of Education. Such standards shall include assessing teacher and ad mi ni strator sk il ls an d kn owle dg e, impr ovin g st ud ent ac ad emic progress, providing for school safety, and enforcing student discipline. EVALUATION OF THE SUPERINTENDENT

It is the responsibility of the School Board to maintain and improve thequality of administration and instruction. The Superintendent's

effectiveness is essential to this responsibility.

Annually, the Superintendent will provide to the School Board a workplan designed to implement the goals set for the division by the SchoolBoard. The Board will formally evaluate the Superintendent each yearthrough the use of a cooperatively developed instrument whichadequately measures his/her accomplishments under the work plan.Informal evaluations may also take place as the Board deemsappropriate, provided that specific criteria for such appraisals becommunicated to the Superintendent.

Each Board member will be involved in assessing the Superintendent's  job performance on a continuing basis and by completing the formalevaluation instrument. Upon conclusion of the annual performanceappraisal, the evaluation will be reviewed with the Superintendent bythe Board or by a designated committee of its members.

 The School Board will incorporate in its evaluation instrument uniformperformance standards and criteria as developed by the State Board of Education. Such standards shall include assessing teacher andadministrator skills and knowledge, improving student academicprogress, providing for school safety, and enforcing student discipline.
