HVX series
The result of a sustained development effort for application in air-insulated switchgear unitsThe HVX series vacuum circuit breaker is the technical result of SchneiderElectric’s one hundred years, experience in the medium-voltage field. The HVX series offers a proven state-of-the-art design to meet your specifications for power switching devices in air-insulated switchgear.
b a fixed, frontal version b a withdrawable, frontal version with a circuit breaker and its cradle or its cassette b a fixed version equipped with an integrated protection system b accessories supplied separately.
The HVX series circuit breaker is operated via a spring mechanism that provides an operating speed independent of the operator and that does not require an auxiliary power supply. When the operating mechanism is motorised the circuit breaker can include telecontrol functions and carry out rapid reclosing cycles. The circuit breaker versions are easy to integrate in a cubicle environment. An Installation Guide details the required procedure.
ApplicationsThe HVX series is our latest range of vacuum circuit breakers, which are mainly integrated in MV switchgear. The HVX series comprises core components of MV switchgear for panel builders, which are used to protect overhead cables, cables, motors, transformers or generators. The HVX series is suitable for mainstream air-insulated switching devices and is widely used in the Oil & Gas, Power distribution system, Transportation, Industry and Mining & Metal segaments.

HVX series Standards and certifications& Operating conditions
StandardsHVX series vacuum circuit breakers conform to the following standards:IEC 62271-100, IEC 62271-1.
Quality & EnvironmentQuality production management The vacuum interrupter manufacturing units are certified ISO 9001, and employ a mature and robust Quality Management System (QMS).
Protection of the environmentSchneider Electric is committed to a long-term environmental approach. All necessary measures have been taken in connection with our services, suppliers and subcontractors to ensure that the materials used in the composition of the equipment do not contain any substances prohibited by regulations and directives. In order to help you protect the environment and relieve you of any concerns in terms of storage or dismantling, Schneider Electric Services offers to take back your equipment at the end of its life.

Operating mechanismThe operating mechanisms have been simplified to increase reliability and give extended life with very low maintenance.Instead of the traditional spring operating mechanism, the HVX series incorporates a single-shaft system and only one torsion spring, reducing the number of parts and increasing reliability. The cam output from three independent phases is ideal for the vacuum switch. The transmission mechanism's one-step output and the special axletree design provides optimum transmission efficiency to ensure energy saving and a stable, reliable mechanism.
Operating principleEnergy is stored in the spiral spring by means of the electric motor or manual crank. Opening and closing of the vacuum interrupter is controlled by the cam; upon closing, the spring automatically restores the energy for an integrated automatic on/off operating cycle. An on/off storage mechanism, with its special mechanism, can absorb the excess energy of the drive mechanism through a quick on/off operation. The operating mechanism has electric and manual charging devices. The relevant interlock prevents manipulation errors after energy storage.
Drive spring-charging mechanism using a crank
The HVX series is designed as a modular system, allowing it to be interchanged with similar products. The HVX series is available in a range of standard, fixed or withdrawable configurations, with plug-in or bolted connections.
The values below are given for normal operating conditions according to IEC62271-100, IEC62271-1.

Vacuum interrupterThe Schneider Electric VG vacuum interrupter series achieves a truly optimal design, thanks to the latest computer modeling tools. With the most advanced one-stop sealing technology, the VG series minimizes artificial pollution during production.Based on our patent design and comprehensive knowledge of vacuum interrupter technology, Schneider Electric's vacuum interrupter is a standout in the medium-voltage field with its high reliability, small size and long service life.
Embedded-pole constructionThe embedded pole is another of Schneider Electric's contributions to medium voltage products, with its 10 years-plus experience in design and manufacture, and it has been tried and tested in the field for many years. Employing the embedding technology, it completely integrates the vacuum interrupter, the main circuit and the insulated shaft in an epoxy pole to totally isolate the main circuit from the outside. This gives the pole optimum environmental adaptability, since the circuit breaker can function normally under harsh conditions.
InterfaceFront face Compact and user-friendly design of the front face, integrating all important indications and statuses for clear understanding.

TestIn compliance with the present standards of vacuum circuit breaker performance, HVX has been demonstrated through a series of R&D timing and type tests. These tests have been performed in the manufacturer’s own laboratory and authoritative institutions such as KEMA. The test content not only includes the general type test items but also covers different special requirements, for example, generator protection, capacitor bank switching, breaking of hyper-standards and short-circuit making current, very long electrical and mechanical endurance, etc.
Floor rolling designIn addition to the middle rolling, the floor rolling design is also available if preferred. It provides the necessary robust interlock suitable for your operational requirements, and can surely fulfil all your possible needs and ensure a high level of quality.
CradleWe can provide cradles for various kinds of cabinets, and can prepare bus grounding switches according to your specific requirements, which are suitable for various electrical performance and installation requirements.
Middle rolling designThe robust design of the middle rolling truck provides you with a reliable interlock with panels, and flexible racking-in and racking-out operations. The mechanical and electrical design effectively avoids handling errors.

ReleaseAuxiliary release F2, F11/F12The auxiliary release coil is actuated by the auxiliary power supply. The coil is designed for short-term operation only; its main circuit is therefore routed via an auxiliary switch contact controlled by the circuit breaker shaft, and upon release it interrupts the current circuit.
Over-current release F3(Transformer-type over-current release) Over-current releases are used for automatic release of switching devices in the event of short-circuits and over-currents. Once the protection device reacts, the release is actuated by the transformer current, thus causing the switch to be tripped. These releases are supplied for transformer secondary currents of 0.5 A, 1 A and 5 A.
Under-voltage release F4Under-voltage releases are used for the auxiliary boost voltage return circuit.Whenever the auxiliary current is interrupted or its voltage drops significantly, the switching device is immediately tripped.
Auxiliary switchAuxiliary switch in switching position S11/S12Auxiliary switches are always actuated directly by the switch shaft via an intermediate linkage, the position of which always corresponds to the position of the main contacts, indicating the breaker's on and off position status; during wiring, the interlock assists the release to prevent handling errors. Generally speaking, the circuit breaker is equipped with two auxiliary switches with a total of eight contact elements.
Auxiliary switch in charging position S2The auxiliary switch is mainly used to check and indicate the charging status. It is connected by the charging mechanism to ensure that, during the closing operation, the driving mechanism can automatically store energy. When charging is complete, it breaks the electrical charging circuit. Generally speaking, the circuit breaker is equipped with an auxiliary switch with eight contact elements.

Anti-pumping relay K01If both ON and OFF commands are permanently present on the circuit breaker at the same time, the latter returns to open position after closing; it remains in this open position until the ON command is issued again. This prevents continuous closing and opening (i.e. “anti-pumping”).
HVX series Complementary devices
Operation counterThe operation counter installed on the operating interface records the circuit breaker operating frequency.
Charging motor M1This electrically stores energy for the circuit breaker operating mechanism, preparing energy for the next closing operation.
Blocking magnetBlocking magnet for closing Y1If the secondary controlling power supply is lost, the circuit breaker cannot perform the normal closing operation (including manual closing).
Blocking magnet for trolley Y0If the secondary controlling power supply is lost, the trolley cannot perform the normal manual operation.
