Marriage Building Blocks Some individuals are poor, some have disabilities, some are

facing personal crisis. Pick a person who is struggling and

imagine yourself in their shoes today. It might be a family

member or someone you’ve heard about on the news.

Developing empathy makes you easier to love.

We welcome Father Paul

to this morning Mass.

Thank you for helping us out

while Father Atwood is at

NCYC convention.

Join us for an All Faith Thanksgiving Service for God’s Many Blessings, sponsored this year by Sacred Heart Catholic Parish on the Sunday before Thanksgiving, November 24 at 6:30pm at Sacred Heart Church, Oelwein.

Enjoy the joint celebration with our community brothers and sisters of different faiths along with our own Sacred Heart Family. Following the Ecumenical Service there will be a time of fellowship with our many Oelwein friends and neighbors from not only Sacred Heart, but the other churches in the Greater Oelwein Community with cookies, coffee and punch in Parish Social Hall. Join us for a time of worship, thanksgiving and fellowship!!

Background on the Gospel Reading

Luke 23:35-43 Today as a Church, we conclude our liturgical year and celebrate the Feast of Christ the King. The

Gospel we proclaim shows the great mystery of our faith: In the moment of his crucifixion, Jesus is

shown to be King and Savior of all.

Luke's Gospel has been loaded with surprises: the poor are rich, sinners find salvation, the

Kingdom of God is found in our midst. Here we see the greatest surprise of all. We are confronted

with the crucified Jesus, whom faith tells us is King and Savior of all. The irony is that the

inscription placed on the cross, perhaps in mockery, contains the profoundest of truth. As the

leaders jeer, the thief crucified by his side recognizes Jesus as Messiah and King, and finds

salvation.

Jesus is King, but not the kind of king we might have imagined or expected. His kingship was

hidden from many of his contemporaries, but those who had the eyes of faith were able to see. As

modern disciples of Jesus, we, too, struggle at times to recognize Jesus as King. Today's Gospel

invites us to make our own judgment. With eyes of faith, we, too, recognize that Jesus, the

crucified One, is indeed King and Savior of all. Taken from Loyola Press Sunday Connection

Homily Notes: What did I hear that I would like to remember or think about later???

We Remember Them

This will be the last weekend for the Remembrance Book. We invite you to write the names of your departed loved ones upon the pages of our parish Remembrance Book, to be

remembered in our prayers. The book is located by the Candles of Remembrance
