A Tradition of Excellence

With the development of the first rubber seated butter-fly valve more than 70 years ago, the Henry PrattCompany became a trusted name in the flow controlindustry, setting the standard for product quality andcustomer service. Today Pratt provides the followingrange of superior products to the water, wastewaterand power generation industries.

A Commitment to MeetingThe Customers’ needs

Henry Pratt valves represent a long-term commitmentto both the customer and to a tradition of productexcellence. This commitment is evident in the numberof innovations we have brought to the industries weserve. In fact, the Henry Pratt Company was the firstto introduce many of the flow control products in usetoday, including the first rubber seated butterfly valve, one of the first nuclear N-Stamp valves, and thebonded seat butterfly valve.

Innovative ProductsFor Unique Applications

Though many of the standard valves we produce areused in water filtration and distribution applica tions,Pratt has built a reputation on the ability to developspecialized products that help customers to meet theirindividual operational challenges.

Creative Engineeringfor Fluid Systems

Pratt’s ability to provide practical solutions to complexissues is demonstrated by the following case histories.

Earthquake Proof Valves

Pratt designed and manufactured hydraulically actu-ated valves for a water storage application so that thevalves would automatically operate in the event ofearthquakes. This lead to the development of a valvethat will withstand forces of up to 6g’s.

Custom Actuation/Isolation Valves

Pratt designed and manufactured valves that wouldisolate a working chamber in the event of a nuclearemergency during the decommissioning of armednuclear warheads. The valves were able to close in amillisecond using specially designed Pratt electro-pneumatic actuators.

Valves Designed forHarsh Environments

Pratt designed and manufactured a 144" diameterbutterfly valve for the emergency cooling system ata jet engine test facility. The valve was designed tosupply water to help dissipate the tremen dous heatgenerated by the engines during testing.

Through experience, commitment and creative engineering, Pratt is uniquelysuited to provide superior products for our customers’ special needs.

DESIgn DETAIlS: MoDElS 2FII AnD MkIISelf Adjusting Permanent Packing

Chevron type packing increases sealing force asline pres sure increases. The self adjusting pack -ing bears on turned, ground and polished stain -less steel, min i miz ing wear and assuring long life.Pack ing is ac ces si ble for re place ment with outdis man tling the valve per AWWA Stan dard C504.

lifetime Bearings

Pratt’s chemically inert nylon bearings are sizedto meet or exceed AWWA specification pres sureloads. They are self-lu bri cat ing, require no pe ri -od ic main te nance and are de signed to outlast thelife of the pipe line.

Corrosion resistant Shafts

The shafts in Pratt’s rubber seated butterflyvalves, 3” through 20”, are con struct ed of center-less, ground ASTM A276 type 304 or type 316stainless steel bar and thus are not sus cep ti ble tocorrosion as are carbon steel or oth er similarmaterials. Shafts are one-piece, through-shaftcon struc tion, sized to meet or ex ceed the re quire -ments of AWWA Stan dard C504 for Class 150Bbutterfly valves.

Streamlined Discs

Pratt’s lens-shaped discs are designed to min i -mize pres sure drop and turbulence. In the fullopen po si tion, the disc creates no more frictionloss than a 45Ż el bow. Discs are secured toshafts by stain less steel pins to trans mit re quiredtorques and with stand stress es imposed under ava ri ety of op er at ing con di tions.

Body Seat

our standard seats are constructed of Buna Nrub ber and bond ed to the valve body in Pratt’sman u fac tur ing facility us ing a unique thermal pro -cess. This mold ing pro cess ensures that thedisc-to-seat in ter fer ence will not cause ex ces sivewear or abrasion under normal op er at ing con di -tions. on the wafer type MKII bodies, the rubberseat covers the entire inner surface plus the out -side face of the valve body to pro vide a self-gas-keting fea ture. Pratt’s seat-in-body de signmin i miz es the ef fects of corrosive build up on thein side of the valve be cause deposits are sweptaway by the hard seal ing edge of the disc eachtime the valve is ex er cised.

Heavy Duty Bodies

Both Monoflange MKII and Model 2fII bodies areheavy duty cast iron. Model 2fII flang es are fullyfaced and drilled in accordance with ANSI B16.1,Class 125 standard for cast iron flang es.Monoflange MKII bodies in cor po rate an over lap -ping seat which also forms a gasket for the flangeface. The actuator mounting trun nion is ma -chined and drilled for a 4-bolt connection.
