3
The parallax-free through-the-lenssighting with target marker and widefield of view makes it easy to alignthe pyrometer to the target. Thetarget mark image in the viewfinderindicates the exact location andactual size of the measured spot.
Broadband antireflection-coatedlenses provide an identical image inboth the visible and infrared spectralranges.
The focussing ability facilitates preciseadjustment of the required distancebetween sensor and target. The inter-changeable optics (close-up,standard, telephoto and wide-angleslenses) can be mounted at the pyro-
meter's M42x1 screw thread. Theadditional use of supplementarylenses yields more than 50 combina-tion options, offering a high degree ofapplication versatility. Thus, one basicunit can accommodate both verysmall and large target objects from awide variety of distances.
Alternatively, the pyrometer isavailable with laser sighting.

compact size (Ø 30 mm or 16 mm) thesesensor heads can be installed in cramped,hard-to-access locations. The fibre opticcable can be unscrewed on both sides foreasy detachment. The sensor heads arefocusable. A laser spot light shows the truesize of the measured spot and indicatescorrect focussing. An assortment ofprecision lenses is available for this modelto accommodate target sizes as small as0.66 mm.
Fibre optics
For pyrometers with fibre optics, theelectronics are housed separately from thefibre optic sensor head. A fibre optic cableconducts the infrared radiation to theelectronics assembly. The optical sensorhead can withstand ambient temperaturesup to 250 °C without cooling. Due to their CellaTemp® PZ with fibre optic head Ø 30 mm

Temperature measurement of a pour stream
CellaTemp® PZ with Profibus
The pyrometers of the CellaTemp® PZSeries are available both as spectraland as two-colour pyrometers.Whereas spectral pyrometers detectthermal radiation at one single wave-
length, two-colour or ratio pyrometerspick up the infrared radiation at twodifferent wavelength channels. Theratio of these two intensities is afunction of target temperature. Whenthe radiation detected is equallyreduced at both wavelengths e.g. dueto vapour or dust in the field of view, afogged or dirty lens, or changing sur-face characteristics of the target, theratio signal will remain unchanged andthe two-colour instrument will conti-nue to provide a stable measurement.
The two-colour CellaTemp® PZ alsofeatures an integrated contaminationdetection function. The pyrometerdetects when the lenses of the opticalsystem become too dirty or thesighting tube is impaired. If signalattenuation exceeds a user-definedthreshold, an alarm will trigger.
Coding scheme
PROFIBUS is a multivendor compa-tible field bus standard for a broadrange of applications within the fieldsof measurement engineering andautomation. Due to EN 50170standardisation, PROFIBUS enablesflawless data communication betweena wide variety of networked devices, regardless of manufacture. TheCellaTemp® PZ Series pyrometerssupport the PROFIBUS DP and havebeen approved by the PROFIBUS UserOrganisation.
With RS 485 connection, data istransmitted at speeds of up to12 MBit/s. Up to 32 PROFIBUS DPstations can be interconnected withina network segment. The use ofRS 485 repeaters enables theconnection of up to 127 stations, including masters.
A connection box with screwterminals, mounted to the back sideof the CellaTemp® PZ, serves toconnect the power supply line and thefieldbus cable. The terminationresistor is provided in the connectionbox, therefore, removing a pyrometerfrom the bus system during runningoperations will not interrupt the busline.

meter and a specially programmeddigital display unit. A casting tempe-rature is recorded for each pour. Thepyrometer's feasibility check as wellas the display's innovative programensure that disturbances such assteam, dust, flame formation ormolten drip are ignored.
A large display in the production hallcan concurrently show the tempe-rature values. The collected data canbe transmitted to a central dataacquisition system. Alternatively,Keller's CellaMevis® PC softwareenables temperature profiles to beviewed in real-time and saved tomemory. The CellaCast® system isrounded off by a special mountingassembly which serves to protect thepyrometer against excessive ambientheat and soiling.
The pyrometers are designatedaccording to a coding scheme, comprised of the following:PZ x AF yz /D /LPZ: refers to the series in generalx: serves as a placeholder denoting

Laser Measurement
The CellaTemp® PZ 27 model wasdesigned for laser heat treating appli-cations employing diode lasers orNd:YAG lasers. A purpose-builtblocking filter prevents the laser beamradiation from affecting the pyrometersignal. With its high-resolution,precision lenses, the PZ 27 achievesthe tiny measuring spot which theapplication calls for.

Application Examples
Filaments
Pyrometers specially calibrated fortungsten with high-resolution opticsdetect the temperature ofincandescent filaments in light bulbmanufacturing.
Crystal growing Combustion furnaces,Coking plants
Because of the extremely harshambient conditions, these applicationscall for two-colour pyrometers.
Induction hardening,Laser welding
Blast furnaceForging, hardening, tempering
In the metalworking industry, thesuccess of many heat treatment andfinishing processes is very muchdependent on precise control ofprocess temperatures.
Rolling millsHot dip galvanising lines
For billet rolling and metal stripprocessing, quick and accuratetemperature detection is crucial towardachieving a non-varying quality of thefinished product.
Quick and reliable temperaturedetection of ultra small targets incramped conditions.
Glassmaking Rotary kilns
Clinker temperatures at the kilnentrance and exit are checked. Shelltemperatures are monitored regularlyto detect possible refractory damage.
Annealing furnaces
Pyrometers, as a accurate, non-wearingmeasuring system with long-term reliabili-ty, are ideal for quick temperature checksin order to maintain process control.
Pyrometers measure temperatures inmelting tanks, port arches, at moulds,in cooling zones and at the gob.
Accurate temperature control duringcrystal growing is crucial to achievinghigh quality in the subsequent waferproduction.

CellaMevis® is Keller's Windows®-based industrial software system fordata capture and visualisation. Itsupports the CellaTemp® PZ pyrometerfor real-time monitoring, analysis andarchiving of recorded temperatures. The use of an RS 232 or USB interfaceenables communication to a PC andallows the temperature data to besaved in ASCII file format. Measure-ments can be instantly displayed as atable or plotted online as a time/temperature curve. Data can also beexported into MS-Excel® or otherspreadsheet program for furtheranalysis.
The VK 01/C PC connection box can beeasily inserted into the pyrometer'sconnection cable during initialinstallation or field service. The simpleplug connector enables on-siteconnection in a matter of secondswithout interrupting operations.
To check if peripheral equipment suchas the signal conditioner or analoguescaling is functioning properly, an out-put signal can be simulated.
With CellaMevis®, remote configurationat a PC during running operations is analternative to setting parametersdirectly at the instrument via controlbuttons. Parameter changes areeffective immediately. Measurementdata is not only displayed at the pyro-meter, but transmitted and recorded ata PC.
The connection box is especiallyconvenient when performing on-sitetest measurements because it enablesconnection to a PC in a matter ofseconds. To provide the pyrometer withan electrical current, the power supplyis simply connected to the box, thuscreating a mains-independent dataacquisition system.Temperature/time chart

The CellaCap® video monitoring systemprovides remote target monitoring andpyrometer adjustment from the controlroom. The basis of the modular system is aCCD video camera. The camera moduleis screwed onto the rear of the pyro-meter and views the target through thepyrometer’s sighting. The optical pathsfor measuring and sighting are on thesame axis. The measuring environmentas well as the exact target spot becomevisible in the video image on the moni-tor as a ring-shaped marker. Thesystem enables continuous monitoringof the target area as well as analignment check in order to detectdisturbances as soon as they occur. Theswivelling/tilting device allows theoperator to adjust the pyrometer fromthe control room. This greatlyfacilitates pyrometer alignment incramped or difficult to accesslocations.
