MITE understands that entrepreneurship is the future of the global economy and have realized
the shift in temperament towards self-employment. The institution is in the mission of aiding the
young aspiring entrepreneurs as global forecasts say that almost one third of millennial today
aspire to some form of entrepreneurial venture.
MITE has set up a conducive ecosystem for the startup culture to flourish with the best
infrastructure, training, and mentorship. The Entrepreneurship Development Cell strives to

connectivity with the best configured computers. The incubatees are extended access to all the
laboratories. The center has mentors from Industry as well as successful local entrepreneurs on-
board. The center extends technical, management and legal support to the young entrepreneurs

Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC)
Preamble The objective of promoting entrepreneurship among the youth is to nurture a passion for self-
employment. This will open gates for creation of new knowledge-based innovative hi-tech
ventures, industries and new breed of technopreneurs and more avenues of employment
opportunities, thus turning job seekers into job creators. This leads the nation towards industrial
excellence and self-reliance. The Entrepreneurship Development Cell of the college aims
towards achieving the same.
College hosts a well-furnished, state of art Incubation Centre to provide office space &
equipment, technology support and seed capital to nurture the upcoming entrepreneurial talents.
It offers a more robust and approachable facility to the individuals who have high entrepreneur
ambitions. Conduction Entrepreneurship Awareness Program (EAP)- the new generation
entrepreneurs, corporate executives, guest speakers on various domains covering technology &
management are invited to guide and motivate students. Industrial Visits are part of EAP, which
is a great source to gain practical knowledge.

DAY 1(12-09-2019) – Session 1 & 2
An Entrepreneurship Awareness camp (EAC) is conducted at Mangalore Institute of Technology & Engineering (MITE) by the Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC) from 12th -14th September 2019. The three-day EAC was inaugurated by Mr. Ramesh K M, CEO & Co-Founder, Trividtrans Private Limited, delivered a talk on “Entrepreneurship: The unwritten rules”. He spoke about the various challenges faced by the entrepreneurship and also the opportunities that can be utilized by the students in order to be the job providers of tomorrow. The EAC is conducted by EDC-MITE in association with National Science & Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board (NSTEDB) and Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII) Ahmadabad.

The main objective of the camp is to create awareness among the students about the various facets of Entrepreneurship as a career option. The camp will highlight how creativity is essential for success of an entrepreneur and is also aimed at motivating entrepreneurships in individuals.

Day 2 (13-09-2019) Industrial Visit
In the last day of the EAC, students were taken to industrial visit to “SKF ELIXER INDIA PRIVATE LIMITED”- Belvai. SKF is the expertise gained in the food grains processing industry for decades that made us aware of the extent of water contamination and the urgent need for pure, mineral water in India. After decades of R&D, company have finally designed, manufactured and launched the entire range of mineral water plants- institutional, commercial, food & beverage industries, public places, including the domestic ones. EDC Coordinator accompanied the students during the industrial visit.

Mr. Sunilkumar B U, Founder and CEO of Defair Integrations, delivered a talk on “Entrepreneurship development in Engineering students”. In his talk, he stressed on how various Entrepreneur development programmes can help the entrepreneurs to enhance their organizing and managerial abilities so that they can run their enterprise efficiently and successfully. He focused on how the employment generation can help in improving the job crisis and how eventually it would lead to benefit the nation’s economy.

Preamble Intellectual Property (IP) refers to various distinct types of creations of the mind: inventions,
literary, artistic works, symbols, names, images, and design rights and trade secrets are
recognized under the corresponding fields of law.
An Intellectual Property Right (IPR) Cell has been formed at Mangalore Institute of
Technology and Engineering to provide knowledge by coordinating and conducting activities
related to the Intellectual Property Rights in the Institution and also to create awareness among

One Day Workshop on the Significance of Intellectual Property Rights Significance for Entrepreneurs and Academia

Speaker: Dr. Ramamurthy, Senior advisor, Origin IP solutions, Bengaluru.
Dr. Ramamurthy, inaugurated the Workshop and delivered talk on “Demystifying the Spectrum of Intellectual Property Rights, with focus on Trademarks”. He initially spoken about how fresh ideas will come and how unique solutions to problems may become an invention. Further he explained about the commercialization of the idea. He gave examples of new invention like tubeless tires, fighting Dengue using eco green energy outdoor lighting system, X-ray vision T-Shirt, Belt driven Hubless Bicycle etc.

In continuation to that Dr. Ramamurthy explained various domains of IPR protection; those are copyright, patent and trademark. Copyright gives the creator of original work exclusive rights to it. Patent grants an inventor exclusive rights to make, use, sell and import an invention for a limited period of time for a product and trademark is a recognizable sign, design which identifies

Ms. Prabhavathi Rao, Delivered Talk on “Growing Significance of Intellectual Property Tools for Entrepreneurs and Academia” in the second session of the Workshop.
Ms. Prabhavathi Rao highlighting various Government Schemes available for Product Development
Ms. Prabhavathi Rao explained the potential of a business to create jobs and how entrepreneurs predominate in the economy. She also explained that Entrepreneurship has offered the opportunity to many of the world’s poor to earn a sustainable livelihood. She offered guidance to develop entrepreneurship promotion among women, youth and minorities as well as offering
guidance on how to establish national centers of excellence in entrepreneurship, encouraging networking and the sharing of good practices. She highlighted about government schemes

The speaker encouraged the Audience to convert their ideas into products and copyrights. The session was concluded by answering the queries of the participants and thereby encouraging them to patent their ideas and also to respect the patents that already exist.

“Spotlights on Patents, Patentability, Innovations and patent Mechanism” addressed by Dr. Sarsija Padmanabhan, IP Consultant, in the third session. In her address, she explained the process of patent publication and granting, which includes Filing, Formal Examination, Prior art Search, Substantiate examination, Publication and grant/refuse, Appeal and Opposition.

Last Session of the workshop was a Panel Discussion, All the Key Note Speakers were the panelists and Mr. Glenson Toney, Manager, NAIN incubation center, MITE moderated the discussion. All the Panelists actively involved in the discussion and clarified the queries regarding Patent, Trademarks, Copyrights, Design rights of the audience.

MITE Foundation for Innovation Research and Startups
through Technology
The MITE Foundation for Innovation Research and Startups through Technology (MITE-
FIRST) is established under the aegis of the Rajalaxmi Education Trust Mangalore. The
Foundation has been leading transformation and a paradigm shift towards innovation through
technologies by providing a comprehensive eco-system on building solutions that are sustainable
and address societal issues. The efforts of the foundation have resulted in MITE turning to be a
hub for innovation and young startups.
MITE FIRST focuses on agro-tech, social innovation, and software services, identifies
innovative ideas from students, faculty, and alumni, and extends technical, financial, and legal
aid. The foundation works in conjunction with the Entrepreneurship Development Cell,
Incubation Center and the Research Council to identify the emerging ideas, provide support and
elevate them to startups that can disrupt businesses.
With MITE having an industry-standard Incubation Center, grants from the Government of
Karnataka and MSME Government of India, the MITE foundation further fuels the innovation
ecosystem on campus with funding for innovative ideas. The incubation Center currently houses
three Alumni Startups, 20 idea incubates and provides an infrastructure that boosts innovation.
