TRANSFIGURATION OF THE LORD Father Andrew Wojtan Homily Summary August 6, 2017
A written summary is not available as Father is still recovering from his recent illness. You may watch this and other powerpoint homilies of Father Andrew’s online on YouTube. Please “Like” and “Share” these videos to increase viewership.

Last week’s feast of the Transfiguration presents the full force of God's power. In the rare moments when humans are permitted to encounter God's intense fullness, the hu-man reaction is the same: fear. The prophet Daniel is so frightened by his visions that he falls flat on his face in terror. Today's Gospel reports that Peter, James, and John were "very much afraid" when they saw Jesus transfigured on the mountain. They too fell prostrate in fear. These mighty revelations of God's brilliant majesty have a para-lyzing effect on those who witness them. God does not prefer to terrify us, however. God chooses only rare moments to reveal the divine glory, and then sends witnesses to the rest of us so we can believe without fear. Saint Peter's letter advises us to be atten-tive to God's witnesses. Their testimony is true. Their words renew our hearts and transform our lives. Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.
FAMILY FORMATION & BIBLE STUDY—Register next weekend, August 19 -20 in Emmaus Hall after all Masses, for family formation and Bible study, Cathol-icism: The Pivotal Players. Late regis-tration is the following weekend after all Masses, August 26-27. Chris McCor-mick, Faith Formation director, will ex-plain the new program! Calendars will be distributed when you register!
HOLY SPIRIT MEMORIES—1967
“When we were building our church, Oak Park [Elementary] School allowed us to celebrate Mass there. We sat in little school chairs. We had a large selection of religious articles which were stored under our bed in long boxes and transported in our station wagon every Sunday. We sold many to adults and had a wonderful selection for the children, which they appreciated with gifts they could purchase at a nominal price.
We also did a census of every house in our new assigned area, from the north side of Garden Street to the end of Mims. We had to ask if there were any baptized Catholics living there. We found many fallen away Catholics and heard many stories of the ‘little long ago happenings’ as to why they left the Church.” - Ethelind (Morris) Hendrickson
