MESSAGE FROM YOUR 2014 CHAIR OF THE BOARD
On behalf of the 2014 Board of Directors I am proud to be able to say: Mission accomplished.
Right from the start we discussed the municipal budget with the mayor, council and city staff and it quickly became clear that only together are we able to get results. Proudly I can say that to this day we are talking without hesitation about this and other issues in a very civilized way. More than ever pulling together is the ba-sis for prosperity for all of us.
The next focus for us was to make sure that the resolutions that the Thunder Bay Chamber of Commerce tabled at the Annual General Meetings of the Ontario Chamber of Commerce and the Canadian Chamber of Com-merce made the way through the plenum. Thanks to the untiring efforts of Charla and our staff, every single one was adopted as policy. Not to forget that our own President, Charla was also the co-chair of the OCC caucus at the Charlottetown Canadian Chamber AGM.
Due to the leadership of the Thunder Bay Chamber of Commerce, we made significant inroads in job training and education. Never before in recent history were so many people involved voluntarily in apprenticeship development. We know that without an extremely well trained workforce there will be NO future for our city or region.
This is also the time to say thank you. Thank you to the retiring Board members: Janet Northan, Ed Schmidtke, Timo Hiiback, and Milosz Skowronski. Your impact in our Chamber will be missed. Please stay active.
Thank you to you all at the Thunder Bay Chamber of Commerce for giving me a home for active participation in our community. 2015 marks my 9th year on the Board and my 20th active year at the Chamber. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!
Now to the future: for 2015 we here in Thunder Bay once again lead the way in Canada by electing the first Aboriginal person to lead a Chamber of Commerce. Joe Moses is our new Chair. I can assure you that our Chamber is in good hands!
Thank you and God bless to all of you.
