8  GeV  Electron-‐Positron  Linac

•  Girders,  2  t  each,  deformed.  Their  anchor  bolts  were  broken.

•  A  set  of  triplet  quadrupole  magnets,  400  kg,  fell  from  the  girder.

•  Vacuum  leaked  through  en;re  accelera;ng  structures,  due  to  damages  on  bellows  and  other  components.

•  Two  klystrons  were  damaged  due  to  vacuum  leak.

•  Underground  water  flew  into  the  tunnel. 2

A  set  of  triplet  quadrupole  magnets  fell

Major  part  of  the  Linac  beam  pipe  is  mounted  on  flexible  leaf  spring  mechanisms,  which  had  sustained  large  earthquakes  in  the  post.    This  ;me  the  displacement  was  so  large  a  quadrupole  magnet  put  between  the  leaf  spring  moun;ng  and  the  fixed  moun;ng  fell  to  the  floor.    The  leaf  spring  to  the  right  also  surrendered.

The  linac  consists  of  240  units  of  2  m  accelera;ng  structures,  which  has  vacuum  pressure  at  10-‐6  Pa.  The  earthquake  broke  the  vacuum  of  almost  all  structures  to  the  atmospheric  pressure.  The  damage  due  to  the  intrusion  of  debris  and  moisture  may  affect  the  performance.

Accelera;ng  structure  is  made  of  oxygen-‐free  copper  (lec).

The  linac  is  equipped  with  60  klystrons  for  the  genera;on  of  microwave  applied  300  kV  voltage.  At  least  two  of  them  became  unusable  due  to  vacuum  leak  by  the  earthquake.  Possibili;es  of  performance  reduc;on  remain  for  other  units.

When  electric  power  supply  was  cut  off  in  KEK,  radia;on  dose  rates  were  measured  at  the  boundary  of  radia;on  control  area  using  portable  dosimeters,  and  it  was  confirmed  there  is  no  effects  from  KEK  accelerators.  Several  radia;on  monitors  at  the  site  boundary  were  powered  from  outside  of  KEK,  and  in  early  morning  on  March  15,  gamma-‐ray  dose  rates  increased  dure  to  radio-‐ac;vi;es  from  Fukushima  nuclear  power  plants.  Radia;on  control  building  was  powered,  and  from  March  16,  dose  data  in  KEK  site  are  shown  in  KEK  HP hhp://rcwww.kek.jp/norm/  KEK  let  eight  portable  radia;on  survey  meters  and  20  pocket  dosimeters  to  Fukushima  prefectural  office.

We  already  tested  87  radia;on  monitors  those  send  measured  data  correctly,  though    45  ones  are  not  ready.  Two  radia;on  monitors  at  the  ATF  were  broken.

Pb  shields  around  a  Ge  detector  were  slipped  off  in  Advanced  Instrumenta;on  Lab.  Four  Ge  detectors  were  broken,  and  remain  three  detectors  were  used  to  measure  redio-‐ac;vity.  KEK,  in  conjunc;on  with  Na;onal  Ins;tute  for  Environmental  Study  (NIES)  have  measured  airborne  radio-‐ac;vi;es.  I-‐131,  Te-‐132  etc.  were  detected,  and  these  results  are  shown  in  the  KEK  home  page.
