Challenges that face the CDO

The role is new and still being defined. In the absence of clear responsibilities,the expectations are high, and the CDO is looked upon like a knight in shinningarmour. Most organizations therefore have CDOs learning on the job.

IoT brings with it an explosion of data. Determining which information canadd business value, drive efficiency or improve risk management is animportant task that raises expectations of better results.

Setting up the CDO office requires funding. The combination of highexpectations and limited knowledge around information management bybusiness users can make it difficult for CDOs to get the budget andcommitment from the business they need to make their plans a success.

Balancing expectations such as sophisticated analytics and real timereporting while untangling issues caused by years of underinvestment in ITwill be difficult.
