    GE Commercial Laundry clothes washersWNCJ2050 (equipped with a BridgePoint Cardreader), and WNCK2050 (equipped with ESDCard reader) provides new technology and flexibil-ity to the proven GE washer platform.

    These two systems provide the CommercialLaundry operators with the ability to control pric-ing, usage, and a multitude of functions, alongwith audit functions for successful operationcontrol including activity reports.

    Laundry Logic Management Software provides fullaudit/transactional records displayed in 30 reports.Theft and vandalism is greatly reduced by remov-ing cash from the washer. Collection activities arereduced increasing productivity. Records can beused to provide the best washer rotations tooptimize level loading for even machine use inwasher placement.

    End users benefit because all the information isstored on a card that retains all necessary usageinformation. In both units a central reader stationis located at the Laundry site, the user insertsmoney and the card is encoded to provide theservice level required by the user. The card isthen inserted into the washer reader port, and thecycle is selected by the user and the card isadjusted to charge for usage.

    The user can then replenish their card for the nextusage at the ESD Value Transfer Machine orVTM, for BridgePoint the SmartLaundryTM

    Cash2Card Value-Add Terminal (for all optionscontact BridgePoint at 1-800-562-5875, or ESDat 1-800-523-1510, ext. 104 for more informationon terminals. The product warranty specifies thatthe Card Reader is serviced by the readersoriginal equipment manufacture. SmartCardreaders are available and listed as GE Part #s forthe following models: WNCJ2050-BRIDGEPOINTREADER -WH12X10217, and WNCK2050-ESDREADER- WH12X10218.

    The Keypad electronic Card Reader models haveField Service Diagnostics mode, which recordscertain faults and retains them for review by theservicer. A cycle progession mode can also beenabled to make a check of normal componentoperation.

    The rating plate containing model and serialnumber is located on the rear of the control panelin the center. If you lean over the washer you cansee the rating plate without moving the unit.

    WARNING!:The power must be disconnected before ser-vicing the washer, by unplugging or discon-necting the circuit breaker.The machine must be electrically groundedthrough the grounding lead in the three-prongpower cord. The cord must be plugged into aproperly installed and grounded appliance outlet. Iflocal codes require an additional ground connec-tion, use a 16-gauge or larger wire to connect thewasher cabinet to an established ground. In allcases the ground method must comply with alllocal codes and ordinances.

    IMPORTANT:GE does NOT service the BridgePoint or ESDCard Readers. They must be returned to theirmanufacturer to be serviced. The mounting andharness connections are the same for bothBridgePoint and ESD Card Reader, however dueto the proprietary Card and VTM exchange unitsthey CANNOT be interchanged.

    Remove the four (4) T20H Torx screws from thetop of the control panel. Removing the four screwsallows you to lay the control panel down on thecover and lid assembly (use a cloth to preventscratching the washer lid). Service information willbe located on the control housing, as shown in thephoto below. It is recommend that you use ESD(Electrostatic Discharge wrist band) to preventstatic electric discharge which could damage theelectronic components.

    The Field Service Mode and Fault Codes arereviewed in the manual and will provide instruc-tions on entering the Mode and usage of theinformation.

    INSTALLATION HIGHLIGHTS

    A few important steps will provide with a goodtrouble free installation. Refer to installation in-struction (Pub. No. 31-15443) for complete details,it is shipped in the top pack with every washer. Theinstructions are product specific and reflect thelatest documentation for installation available forthose models.

    LOCATION:Washer must be installed on firm flooring tominimize vibration during spin. Concrete flooringis best. Washer should not be exposed to theweather.

    PLUMBING:Water pressure must be 10 psi minimum to 150psi maximum dynamic pressure measured atfaucet.

    WATER TEMPERATURE:Hot Wash setting should deliver hot water to thetub at 1200 to 1500 degrees F. when hot wash isselected.

    SHUT-OFF VALVES:Both hot and cold shut-off valves (faucets) shouldbe supplied.

    DRAIN:Water may be discharged into standpipe or settub. The discharge height MUST NOT BE LESSTHAN 30 inches nor more than 8 FEET abovethe base of the washer. The standpipe must be 1-1/2 minimum inside diameter and must be opento the atmosphere. Drain hose should be securedto stand pipe.

    ELECTRICAL:This appliance must be supplied with 115V, 60 Hz,and connected to an individual, properly groundedbranch circuit, protected by a 15 or 20 amp circuitbreaker or time-delay fuse.

    TYPICAL HOSE INSTALLATIONS:It is important that the drain hose be secured tothe standpipe or cold water hose as shown toprevent the hose from coming out of the drain andflooding.

    HOSE and ACCESSORIES LOCATION:After removing carton and inner pack and installa-

    WASHER DRAIN HOSE ATTACHMENTThe drain hose attachment to washer has a plastichose clamp and adapter. Remove plastic drainplug from washer, and attach hose clamp to hoseadapter. When engaged it will snap into place.Insert conical hose adapter end into washer drainport, locate holes in adapter, and insert twoscrews found in installation pack and drive them inplace. Thread washer drain hose through suppliedanti-siphon clip.

    RETAINER ROD REMOVALThe shipping retainer rod is inserted in the rightside of the washer and holds the suspension andtub in place during shipping.

    NOTE:SHIPPING RETAINER ROD MUST BE RE-MOVED PRIOR TO SETTING WASHER IN THEFINAL INSTALLATION LOCATION!

    Grasp shipping retainer rod on lower right side ofwasher, and pull rod straight out and discard. Afterremoving shipping rod, with all hoses connectedper Installation instruction 31-15443, move washerto installation location for remaining hose andelectrical preparations.

    Check that washer is level. Plastic leveling legscan be adjust in place. It is important that washerbe levelled front to back and left to right.

    ELECTRONIC CONTROL FIELD SERVICEMODEThe Field Service Mode for the L3D Controlsallows the field service technician to test the inputand outputs of the control. It also allows thetechnician to step through the test cycle to operatethe individual components of the washer.

    Field Service mode can be entered via manualentry or by employing a special Service Mode card(available to commercial laundry owners) into theSmartCard reader.

    Manual entry into the Field Service mode requiresaccess to PC control board, and installing Selectorharness GE Part #WD21X10026(165D13490G014) on the male CN4 connector. Todo so, power down the washer, remove the cur-rently installed Model Selector plug and set itaside. Insert Diagnostics Selector Plug, andreplace control panel. When diagnostics is com-pleted, reinstall original Model Selector Plug.Reassemble backsplash and power up washer.

    Unplugging and then restoring power to thewasher allows the user 15 seconds to enter thetest mode. If the servicer doesnt enter the servicemode within 15 seconds after the power up, theywill have to unplug the washer and start over.

    After disconnecting and reconnecting power, thecontrol test cycle is entered by pressing/holdingthe WHITE COTTONS and the START keypadssimultaneously for 3 seconds. When the test cyclehas started the Display will show FD (Field Ser-vice Diagnostics). The control panel will sound abeep when the buttons are pressed to show that ithas been initiated. Position 0 is the initial entryinto the Field Service Test mode. To move forwardin the test sequence press the COLORED COT-TONS keypad. To return to the previous functionpress the WHITE COTTONS keypad.

    * Model number# Number of error code, if there is more than oneerror, each error will display for 2 seconds, fol-lowed by the next error code (stacked).NOTE: The serial communications test can be runonly once due to the time restrictions in that mode.Once the serial communications test has beenrun, the servicer must exit and reenter the mode torepeat the test.

    The cycle LEDs that are illuminated on the controlpanel will be turned off when the lid is raised. Thisis a valuable check for lid switch function.

    It is important to note that when the STARTkeypad is engaged when in the Error CodesFunction Display mode, the control will clear allerrors.

    If the servicer is in the Model Code FunctionDisplay and the START keypad is pressed, thedisplay will show the ROM Revision of the soft-ware while the keypad is depressed.

    The DRY AGITATE (fast or slow) will become wetwhen the START keypad is depressed for 2seconds. Wet agitate stops the motor, turns on thecold water solenoid until the pressure switch issatisfied. To determine if the pressure switch isoperating correctly, the control turns on the washtemperature LEDs in order from the smallest loadsize to the largest load size LED. As an examplethe Cold Wash LED will represent a small loadand the Hot Wash LED will represent a full basketof water. When the tub has reached the largestlevel, the washer resumes agitation.

    When advancing through the service mode func-tions, energizing LEDs and the accompanyingbeeps will occur immediately. However, a .5second delay will occur before starting a newfunction. The sequence of events are:1. Previous function will stop.

    2. LED for previous function will deactivate.3. LED for new function will activate and beeperwill beep.4. One second will pass and the new input willbegin.The timing permits the servicer to hear when onefunction stops and the other begins.

    TERMINATION OF SERVICE MODEExiting service mode can be accomplished in 3ways:1. Unplug the washer2. Automatically exits after 30 minutes havepassed.3. Where applicable, remove the Service ReaderCard, washer returns to idle state.

    Serial Communications Diagnostics Test:Error Codes E9 Serial Communication(internal) will indicated a short circuit on theboard. E0 is typically an error generatedwhen the card reader does not communicatewith the board. It is noted that the serialcommunications connector on the PC board isfor manufacturing use only.

    CONTROL PANEL SERVICE

    The control panel is designed with ease of servicebeing the major consideration. The switches aretab interlock, and harness connectors are de-signed to only fit the correct mating connector.Control panel is galvanized, with three tabs de-signed to allow the switchtrim to be supportedduring service. Mini-Manual is located in thecontrol panel.

    CARD READER SERVICE1. Remove four (4) T20H Torx screws from the topof control panel as shown. (Mini-Manual can beaccessed from this position as illustrated.2. Remove the 4 corner screws from the back ofthe card reader assembly.3. Remove connector from card reader.4. Reverse procedure to reassemble.

    NOTE:Water valve is serviceable by removing the (4)T20H Torx screws from the top of the controlpanel, and rotating the switchtrim forward.Two 1/4 hex screws mount the water valve to theconsole. The water valve can be changed fromthe front by first pinching off the inlet hoses andpulling through back of control panel to remove.

    PC CONTROL BOARD- REMOVAL ANDREPLACEMENT:1. Remove 4 screws as described above.2. Remove 4 harness unplug and label 4 harnessconnectors.3. Remove 2 (1/4 hex head) screws from controlboard.

    ! WARNING! Disconnectpower before servicing.

    CAUTION: To prevent electrostatic discharge,ground yourself to the washer cabinet or useand ESD wristband.4. Remove the PC control board.NOTE: Align the LEDs with the matchingcontrol panel membrane to help in reassembly.5. Reverse procedure to reassemble.

    MECHANICAL WASHER SERVICELint Filtering SystemThe lint filtering system consist of the turbo pump,agitator, air bell, and self cleaning filter at bottomof spin basket. During agitate water movesthrought the sides and up from the bottomthrought the self cleaning filters.

    During pump down, prior to spin, the turbo pumpis energized, and water is drawn out the sidesand down through the self cleaning filter to cleanand removal lint from the bottom side of the filterarea, and flush lint down the drain.

    Cabinet is galvanized sheet metal, with pow-dered paint coating and is rust resistant. It has afully enclosed bottom, and is 3 sided with a frontpanel. The lid has a patented colored lid instruc-tion that is unique to each model. Proper lidshould be used to replace a lid, so that thecorrect instructions stay with the washer. Thelevelling legs are installed from the factory, andare Polypropylene with Santoprene non-skidbase. Base of levelling legs have a 1 hex nutdesign to allow easy adjustment if necessary.Rear is self levelling, and is accomplished bylifting the rear legs 4 off the floor and loweringthe washer.

    To Service Front Panel:

    1. Locate the two spring clips between cover andfront panel and cover.2. Insert putty knife and push to release clips.3. Rotate front panel forward and lift off cabinetbase locating tabs.4. To reassemble, place front panel on washerbase locating tabs, rotate up into place andpress top of panel at clips, until panel snaps intoplace.

    To Service Cover/Lid Assembly:1. Remove front panel.2. Remove two 1/4 hex screws front left andright side of cabinet top support.3. Pull cover/lid assembly towards you and upabout 2.4. Release lid switch wire connector. Connectoris located in right rear corner of cover, you mayneed to press down on wiring to allow clearanceto remove connector.5. Remove cover/lid assembly, taking care not toallow lid to swing out and be damaged.6. Reverse steps to reassemble.

    CABINET SERVICE (cont) DUAL PRESSURE SWITCH

    Dual pressure switch has two switches in onehousing. The first switch will open when there is 6of water in the basket. The second switch will openwhen the water in the tub has reached the maxi-mum level. The second pressure switch is in serieswith the DC relay coils of both water valve relays.The system for the pressure switch reads openwith water in the tub. Mid level fills are timed basedon lowest level.

    If defective replace pressure switch.

    1. Make sure washer is unplugged from electricaloutlet.2. Remove 4 screws from top of control panel, andlay control panel front on cover.3. Locate pressure switch in backsplash.4. Replace by inserting a small screwdriver underlocking tab, rotating the switch counterclockwise,and lifting switch out of switch bracket to remove.Note: label color coded wires as shown in illustra-tion of switch, for ease of reassembly.

    DUAL PRESSURE SWITCHThe water pressure switch is a new design and isdesigned to be accurate.

    SERVICE TIP:Before disconnecting hose from water level switch,be sure water level in machine is below bottom ofwash basket. After reconnecting hose, put ma-chine in spin for at least one minute before check-ing operation of switch.

    SUSPENSION

    The suspension system is unique in that the spinbasket, tub, and leg and platform assembly aresuspended from the rod support. The rod supportsets atop the cabinet and provides, through 4socket liners durable ball joints. The rod supportgives the suspension a pivot point for the rod andspring assembly. A dampening system consistingof 4 dampening straps mounted to the tub cover,dampens rotation movement during start up andbraking.

    The 4 spring and rod assemblies should be re-placed in with the correct part, since the springcompression is different for the front and the back.This is to compensate for the added weight of themotor. The plastic cover over the spring assem-blies provides a housing that acts as an air shock,to give proper compression during the movementof the wash action. The spring and rod assemblyhave been tested to support a weight of 700 lbs.each, to insure a durable suspension system.

    To Service Suspension

    1. Remove front panel. Remove cover and lid.2. Remove 4 dampening screws front dampenersat tub cover.3. Remove front rod and spring assemblies. (Oneat a time), by lifting tub/platform up with one handto take weight off of suspension bellows.

    NOTE: to remove rod and spring assembly, holddown on ball joint and pull rod forward gently torelease.

    REMOVE ROD AND SPRING ASSEMBLIES IN FRONT

    4. Using thumb and forefinger to release, pull thebellows out of the platform, and allow to hangfreely. Repeat for other side of front.

    5. The tub/platform assembly will now lean for-ward; after both rod and spring assemblies arereleased. Access the rear spring through the topof the cabinet, and unhook the two rear spring androd assemblies.

    (TECH TIP: Allow the front and back rod andspring assemblies to hang freely, they wont bein your way, and it will keep the proper rod andspring correctly located.)

    6. Reverse procedure to reassemble.

    SPIN BASKET

    1. Remove front panel and cover/lid.2. Disconnect (4) dampening straps from tub,attached by 5/16" hex head screw

    3. Remove tub cover by lifting out 8 tabs on tubcover, and pulling cover off.4. Remove agitator by grasping bottom andsharply pulling up, or use agitator removal strap asshown.

    5. Remove 7/16" hex bolt attaching air bell cou-pling to transmission spline shaft.(Tech Tip: The 7/16" bolt has an O ring andshould be replaced every time it is removed tomaintain air bell seal.)6. Remove left-handed 1- 11/16" transmission hubnut. This nut is aluminum, take care not to roundthe edges when removing or replacing. (Note thatthe word LOOSEN with an arrow showing turn tothe LEFT appears on the nut.

    7. Tift tub / basket / platform forward to allowclearance to remove basket.8. Lift basket out and set it aside.(NOTE: You may hear water in balance ring. Thisis sealed and is normal.)9. Replace the basket by reversing procedure.

    SERVICE TIP: When replacing hub nut, tightensnug, then tighten 1/4 turn with hammer and tool.

    SERVICE TIP: The 7/16 bolt has an O ring andshould be replaced every time it is removed tomaintain air bell seal.

    TUB/MOTOR ASSEMBLY

    1. Remove front panel, cover/lid, remove agitatorby using beft tool, insert under agitator and pull upsharply.2. Remove split ring and washer from transmis-sion. 3. Remove front rod and spring asm. (one ata time) by lifting motor tub assembly up to takeweight off sus- pension bellows at lower portion ofthe rod. Pull the bellows out of the leg and plat-form asm., and allow them to hang freely. The frontand the rear rod and spring assembly have differ-ent springs that are color coded and shouldnt beswitched.4. The motor and tub assembly will now leanforward after both front suspension rods areremoved. This allows clearance to remove unhookthe two rod and spring assemblies in the rear.5. Disconnect motor harness connector, andgrounding wire to frame. Pressure switch hose attakeoff. Save plastic ties to redress hoses asshown.6. Disconnect hose from bottom of tub to pump.7. Lift and push bottom of tub/motor assemblytowards the rear, and roll top of tub out under toplip of cabinet. NOTE: An alternate method is to liftcomplete assembly by the platform at the bottomand set it out first, pulling the assembly out thefront. The tub is flexible and can be rolled outunder the cabinet frame.8. Roll tub out per illustration.9. Pull tub out of apron by tilting it over on its topas shown in illustration

    CLUTCH

    Clutch can be ordered as a repair part, and is notshipped with the motor. A common clutch is usedfor both single and two speed motors.

    1. Remove non reusable sping clip by graspingclip with pliers, as shown in illustration, and rotateto remove.

    2. To reinstall, place clutch over motor shaft until itis seated. Align clip so that the clip bottom alignswith flats in motor shaft.3. Rotate and squeeze to install.

    1. Remove front panel, access motor and clutchfrom front2. Loosen (4) 3/8" nuts on leg and platform asm.

    3. Move motor towards the center of the platformto release belt tension, and remove belt.4. After removing 4 motor mount bolts, rotatetransmission to a position that allowsyou enoughclearanceto pull the motor out by moving thebottom forward to allowthe assembly to clear theplatform.5. The clutch is mounted on top of the motor with aone shot removable clutch spring clip that en-gages flats in the motor shaft. To remove theclutch, remove the clip and lift the clutch up.6. Reverse and repeat previous steps to reas-semble.

    TUB SEAL

    1. Remove basket as previous shown.2. Using pliers, grasp 1 of the four tabs mouldedinto the top of the seal, and pull the seal out.3. Position new seal and seat, tap or push the sealinto place, making sure seal is fully seated.4. Reverse steps to replace basket.

    REMOTE PUMP

    1. Remove front panel.

    2. Pump is located in bottom right corner of cabi-net. Disconnect harness connectors, pinch offblack sump hose to prevent water leakage, re-move external drain hose clamp and hose, blacksump to pump drain hose clamp and hose.3. Remove 2 screws (1/4 hex) in front of pumpand lift out pump.

    4. Reverse steps to replace pump.

    SERVICE TIP: The pump fan should rotate, ifblocked by a foreign obstruction, remove theobstruction, and the blade will rotate easily.

    NOTE: Belt tension is about 1/2 deflection wheninstalled. This can be check by flexing the beltbetween the thumb and forefinger and pushingthe two sides of the belt towards the center for atotal movement of approximately 1/2

    TRANSMISSION SERVICE

    1. with motor/tub/transmission assembly upsidedown, loosen motor mounts to release belt ten-sion.2. Remove transmission drive pulley by holdingbelt together as shown. Remove pulley nut. (1 3/4)

    3. After pulley is removed, remove (4) 3/8 boltsmounting the transmission mounting plate to legand platform assembly.

    4. Remove (4) 1/2 hex bolts mounting platformand leg assembly to tub. Remove wire tie fasteningoverflow tube.

    5. Remove leg and platform support.6. Lift transmission up and out. Transmission/brakeassembly is one component, and is replaced as asingle component. Transmission assembly is nottechnician serviceable.7. Reverse and repeat steps 1-6 to replace trans-mission/brake assembly.

    NOTE: Transmission cutaway view below is shownto provide you with a glimpse of the internalworkings of this rotating transmission. It featuresall metal gears, metal counterweight, and 5.5 oz.of oil. The transmission and quiet brake are onecomponent, and is replaced and not rebuilt.

    Durable transmission provides long service with itsall-metal gears. There are no plastic gears to wearor break. All- metal gears provide more durabilitythan plastic gears of the same size. These metalgears allow for a smaller and more balancedtransmission. Agitation is accomplished by turningthe transmission in a clockwise motion. Spinspeeds occur when the transmission is spun orrotated in a counterclockwise motion. A triple lipseal with garter spring provides tub seal system.Care must be taken to make sure garter spring isin place when replacing transmission. The tubbushing is an oil impregnated type, and is notreplaceable. It is molded in place at the factory.
