Project 3
Part 1
Search through the 4 art movements (page 5) for inspiration and design ideas for
a new final compositional drawing. Choose three images from those specific art
movements that inspire you in terms of design mechanics and design content.
Part 2
Write a one paragraph assessment on why those particular design mechanics
and design content inspired you. Be specific in naming the key compositional
principals that that are embedded in those ideas or mechanics.

Part 3
Take the design mechanics and design content that you wrote about and come up with an original idea for a final composition. Write a one page statement of
what the idea is and what compositional foundational principals you will use.
Project 4
Students will work individually to create a Goal Pyramid in order to organize the
foundational principals of composition for their final composition. The
information will be modeled Through the 4 complete stages of the visual art
compositional process (the Goal Pyramid). The Goal Pyramid will reflect the
design aesthetics, ideas and goals that were written about in parts 2 and 3.
Project 5
Students will work with their Goal Pyramid to create a new batch of Thumbnails
(10) and Poster Studies (4) for the completion of the Final Composition (1)
(Stage 3)
GOAL PYRAMID STEPS
Step 1 is the beginning stages of compositional design this stage focuses on
Thumbnail sketches using as many foundational principals of visuals composition
that are needed (vocabulary List) Complete 5 to 10 thumbnails in order to give
yourself options
Step 2 is the intermediate stage at this point the thumbnails sketches have been
narrowed down to one design to take to the ne more complex sketches or Poster
Studies will be completed focusing in color value shape and form
Step 3 is the Final Composition at this stage the design principals of the poster
studies will be combined into one compositional drawing and this will be the final
design that the finished art will be based on

GOAL PYRAMID SCORING GUIDE There are 5 main categories with 10 sub categories directly beneath them. Each of the 10 subcategories are worth 10 points apiece.
Students will have 3 days to complete an 8.5 by 11 inch Goal pyramid. The Goal Pyramid can be
completed in a traditional or digital format.
