What happened As an experiment, in our class we did a simulation were

brown eyed people had to do work and got to be discriminated by the blue eyed group who got to do whatever they wanted whenever they wanted such as eat cookies, play games and chat . The majority of the class were brown eyed people and didn’t appreciate that. The reflections said that the blue eyed people thought they were over treated and the brown eyed people were extremely angry.

Reflections from our classmates:

We received many reflections and here are some examples:

Here are some answers from the un privileged group

I felt like a dog on a leash I felt left out and under strict orders I thought that if this happens on a daily status I would be really mad I felt bossed around

Here are some answers from the privileged group

I felt over treated I felt kind of bad for the other group

I felt really, really goodI felt really bad for the un-privileged group because they were my friendsI felt kind of embarrassed

Our Action Plan

Our action plan was to let other classes do the simulation. As you know, we did the simulation in 5BV. We told them the instructions, we also told them to write how they felt when the simulation was finished. We were hoping the fourth grade teachers would like the simulation and play it with the fourth graders so our action will be long lasting. All five 4th grade classes played our game.

4th grade Participants

Thank you to Ms.Bartels, Ms.Phillips, Ms.Pollard, Ms.Golinski and Mr.Pavao for letting us do the simulation so they let their students understand what prejudice can really do. Their pupils got to participate in our simulation and hopefully will think twice about discriminating someone.
