    would live with no man who was not satisfied with the way he managed the business.Also, the slaves behave badly behind his back and then run to tell lies to Mr. Jones. Mr.Jones was disinclined to let his friends see him.

    Gilbert was brought to trial, severely whipped, and then made to beg pardon from all ofthe children he whipped for his treatment of them.

    He wanted to ne a hostler because his father used to take care of horses and mules.

    It was not a happy season for slaves because hiring day wasnt far away and

    many families were afraid of separation.

    Slaves were allowed to go out until twelve to beg for contributions.

    10. How was Christmas celebrated by slaves?

    Christmas was a day of feasting, and they cooked and ate what they could get with their

    families.
