STRING FAMILY       The string family makes up more thanhalf the orchestra. Although many of the strings instruments looks similar,they are very different in sound and size. As you can probably guess for the name, all the instruments in this family have strings.

WOODWIND FAMILY

A woodwind instrument is a musical instrument which produces

sound when the player blows air against a sharp edge or through a

reed, causing the air within its resonator (usually a column of air)

to vibrate. Most of these instruments are made of wood but

can be made of other materials, such as metals or plastics.

BRASS FAMILY

Brass isntruments are really made of brass. They can play the loudestof all the instruments in the orchestra.They are basically long tubes ended witha bell.You play a brass instrument by putting your lips into a mouthpiece and buzzing.This buzzing makes air vibrate down thelong metal tubes and creates sound.You change the sound by pressing different valves and blowingfaster or slower.

   To play a percussion instrument, you hit it, shake it  or scrape it. Sometimes you hit it against itself, and sometimes you use sticks or mallets.
