Each year seems to go by a little faster. I guess this is a sign of age. I would like to remind everyone graduation is scheduled to be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, May 28th in the high school gymnasium. The 2017-2018 school year will begin on Wednesday, August 23 and Thursday, August 24th with Teacher Inservice. The first day of school will be Monday, August 28th. The 2017-2018 school calendar can be found on the school website. Click on the calendar that is located in the upper left hand corner. As everyone knows, I will be resigning my position on June 30th. I would like to take this opportunity to thank a few people, including individuals both past and present. First, I would like to thank the community of Bottineau. I appreciate the kind words and support over the past twelve year. My family and I felt like we were a part of the community from the first day I started work at the Bottineau Public School in 2005. Second, I would like to thank the board for hiring me and giving me the opportunity to work with such a great staff and students. Third, I would like to thank my staff, I have had the opportunity to work with an excellent staff over my twelve years. They are compassionate about the education of our students. I would also like to thank each staff member for their support. Each of you have helped me grow professionally these past twelve years. A special thanks to my business manager, office secretaries and administrators. Your support over the years is very much appreciated. Fourth, I would like to thank the parents. Thank you for the opportunity to work with your children. It was truly an honor and pleasure to work with each of your children over the years. Finally I would like to thank the students. The students are why I chose to go into education. Thank you for all the memories I had attending ball games, concerts, and banquets, basically any events I had the pleasure of attending. I feel very humbled to have had the opportunity to watch many students grow through their school years and go on to be very successful. Again, thank you and best of luck to everyone in the future. Have a safe and enjoyable summer!

  • Concert(Band,(Piano,(&(Guitar(II(Spring(Concert(

The Bottineau High School Concert Band, Piano, and Guitar II Classes will present their Spring Concert on Thursday, May 11 at 7:30 p.m. in the James Holwell Auditorium at Bottineau High School.

The Guitar II Class will perform several numbers including, My Girl, Calypso Morning, and Yankee Doodle Dandy. The Piano Class will treat you to Ode To Joy, When the Saints Go Marching In, and Russian Sailor Dance.

The Concert Band participated in the Region 8 Large Group Contest in March. We performed Filum Vitae by Kenley Kristofferson, and an exciting number by Samuel Hazo called Enchanted Spaces. We will perform those numbers as well as Smokey Joe’s Cafe, Block M, and a lively, energetic dance for symphonic band by Travis Weller entitled Moravian Dance. Several ensembles & solos will also be featured. In addition to our musical presentation, the John Philip Sousa Award will be presented to an outstanding senior band student “in recognition of outstanding achievement and interest in instrumental music, for singular merit in loyalty and cooperation, and for displaying those high qualities of conduct that school instrumental music requires”. This award is voted on by the students’ peers with approval from the music faculty. And lastly, we will be drawing for our beautiful hand-crafted quilt! Admission to the concert is $6.00 for adults, $4.00 for students, or free with your activity pass. Please plan to join us on May 11th! !

  • Notes to “Toot” About

May Newsletter time??? It seems that I was just getting my articles ready for the September newsletter! Many things have happened throughout this school year with many more exciting things to come in the next two months! Please take note of the items below as well as notes from your children or in the mail: Saturday, May 6: State Music Contest in Minot Thursday, May 11: Concert Band, Piano, & Guitar Concert at 7:30

p.m. in the Holwell Auditorium Sunday, May 28: Concert & JH Bands plays for graduation at

2:00 p.m. Wear appropriate dress clothes. Monday, May 29: Grades 7-12 march in the Memorial Day Parade at 10:00 a.m. Wear black pants,

your pep band t-shirt or another plain black shirt, and tennis shoes.

I have been reminding and encouraging the students to think about attending music camp this summer. It is indeed a jewel right in our back yard! The quality of the camp is outstanding and no where else can you study with professionals for such a reasonable fee. The students gain a wealth of information and knowledge in one short week, not to mention the many memories and friendships that are created. Be sure you talk to me soon if you are interested in attending for band, choir, piano, drama, creative writing, guitar, or one of the many other weeks of study offered. I am continuing to solicit scholarships for students but my largest donor passed away so I may not have as much money to award as in years past! As we go into this busy time of year, let us not forget to stop and smell the rain and all of those wonderful spring scents as the earth again comes to life. Have a great day! Musically, Mrs. Olson

  • The quilt raffle tickets and money collected are to be turned in to Mrs. Olson by Wednesday, May 10, 2017.

Please make sure your tickets and money are placed in an envelope marked with your name and the dollar amount

enclosed so you are given proper credit. The quilt will be raffled off at the Spring Band Concert May 11, 2017. Good luck to all of you who purchased tickets!
