OPERATIONOvenCookingTips

It is normal to have some odor when

using your oven for the first time. To helpeliminate this odor, ventilate the roomby opening a window or using a venthood.

iMPORTANT: Never cover the ovenbottom or oven rack with aluminum foil.Improper use can cause poor heat flow, poor baking results, and may damagethe oven finish. To prevent staining fromspillovers, you may place a piece ofaluminum foil or a cookie sheet belowfoods which may spill over.

Preheating is bringing the oventemperature up to the temperatureyou will be using during baking. Let theoven preheat when recipes call forpreheating.

To prolong the life of youroven lightbulbs, follow thishelpful tip: Always turn the lights

off when the oven is not in use or during aclean cycle. If your oven lights are left onfor an extended period of time, the ovenwill be warm when the door is openeddue to the heat generated from the ovenlightbulbs.

In the back of the oven you will notice asmall tube. This is a heat sensor thatmaintains the temperature of the oven.Never move or bend this tube.

_ _ OvenTemperature

Sensorfl

The oven vent is located under the control

panel. This area could become hot duringoven use. It is normal for steam to comeout of the vent and/or collect moistureunderneath when the oven is in use. Thevent is important for proper air circulation.Never block this vent.

Oven VentJl Location

Opening the door often to check foods willcause heat loss and poor baking results.

The low temperature zone of your oven(between 170° and 200°F) is available tokeep hot cooked foods warm. However, foods should not be kept at thesetemperatures longer than 2 hours.

When using your convenient Delay Startoperation, foods such as dairy products, fish, poultry, etc., should never sit morethan 1 hour before cooking. Roomtemperatures and the heat from theoven light promote bacterial growth.

OPERATIONOvenCookingTips(cont.)

Most recipes for baking have beendeveloped using high-fat productssuch as butter or margarine (80% fatby weight--the federal requirementfor products labeled "margarine").You will get poor results if cakes, pies, pastries, cookies or candies are madewith low-fat spreads. Low-fat spreadscontain less fat and more water. Thehigh moisture content of thesespreads affects the texture and flavorof favorite baked recipes. The lowerthe fat content of a spread product, the more noticeable these differencesbecome. To ensure best results, usemargarine, butter or stick spreadscontaining at least 70% vegetable oil.

The Oven Temperature Sensor at theback of the oven continuously sensesand controls the temperature insidethe oven. To keep a constant settemperature, the elements will cycle(turn on and off during cooking).

Baking results will be better if bakingpans are centered in the oven asmuch as possible. If baking with morethan one pan, place the pans so eachhas at least 1 to 11/2"of air spacearound it. Stagger pans on the rackso one is not directly above the other.

FLAT COOKIE SHEETS, withoutsides, allow air to circulate all aroundthe cookies for even browning.

SHINY PANS reflect heat, and areperfect for cakes and quick breadsthat need a light brown crust.

GLASS, DARK NON-STICK ORDARKENED BY AGE BAKEWARE,absorbs heat, and carl be used foryeast breads, pie crust or foods thatneed a brown crust. The oven

temperature, when using these pansshould be reduced by 25°F.

Broiling is cooking by direct heatfrom the upper element. The ovendoor should remain open to the broilstop position during broiling.

It is not necessary to preheat theoven when broiling. Use the broilerpan and grid that came with youroven. Both are designed for properdrainage of fat and liquids.

_ f foil is used it must bemolded tightly to thegrid and slits cut intothe foil to match those

of the grid. This allows fats andliquids to drain into the broilerpan, preventing fire andexcessive smoke.

Always remove the pan and gridfrom the oven. Storing orforgetting a soiled K}broiler pan in the ovenis a potential smoke orfire hazard.

The U.S. Department of Agriculturerecommends to cook meat and

poultry thoroughly--meat to at leastan INTERNAL temperature of 160 ° Fand poultry to at least an INTERNALtemperature of 180 ° F. Cooking tothese temperatures usually protectsagainst food-borne illness.

The closer you place foods to thebroil element, the faster foods brownon the outside, yet remain red to pinkin the center.

Moving meats away from the elementwill allow the meat to cook to thecenter while browning on the outside.Cook side 1 at least 2 minutes longerthan side 2. If your oven is connectedto 208 volts, you may want to use ahigher rack position and/or broilfoods longer.

The size, weight, thickness, startingtemperature and your preference ofthe doneness of the meat will affect

3. Wipe up any heavy spillovers onthe oven bottom.

4. Do not clean the door gasket. The fiberglass material of the ovendoor gasket cannot withstandabrasion. It is essential for thegasket to remain intact. If younotice it becoming worn or frayed,it should be replaced.

The door gasket is designed to havea 5"-6" gap at the bottom of the door. This allows for proper air circulation.

Door Pane] Gasket

Door Liner

It is normal for your oven door to givethe appearance of not having a goodseal against the oven. This is due tothe gasket. The location of the gasketon the door maintains a good seal andprevents any heat loss.

_ tensils should never beleft in the oven during aself-clean cycle.

The oven racks may be cleanedduring the self-clean cycle, butwill lose their luster and becomehard to slide. If you choose toleave them in during the cycle, wiping them down withvegetable oil after the cyclewill help them slide easier.

For the first clean cycle, vent theroom with an opened window orhood vent. This will reduce theodor when heating new parts.
