The Battle for Stalingrad-40,000 civilians were killed in the beginning of the battle-740,000 Germans were killed-1,700,000 Red Army soldiers started out fighting for Stalingrad-

The Battle of Stalingrad-At least 40,000 civilian casualties-740,000 Germans killed-750,000 Russians killed, captured, or missing-At the beginning of the battle there were 1,700,000 soldiers in the Red Army group at Stalingrad-There was 850,000 soldiers in the German army group commanded to take Stalingrad -The Germans bombed the city for a few days before sending in the ground troops(that's why so many civilians died)-General Maximilian von Weichs commanded the German Army Group(B) that attacked Stalingrad-Before the battle Stalin gave an order to the entire Russian Army. He gave his officers permission to shoot any man who took one step back.
