Believers in One AccordPhilippians 2:1-11
The Early Church
• Acts 1:14 – “They all joined together constantly in prayer, along with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers.”
• Acts 2: 41 “Those who accepted his (Peter’s) message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.”
Acts 2:44-47 All the believers were together and had everything in common. They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
Philippians 2:1-11• Therefore if you have any
encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from His love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, 2 then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. 3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, 4 not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. 5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:
Philippians 2:1-11• 6 Who, being in very nature God, did not
consider equality with God something to be used to His own advantage; 7 rather, He made Himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to death - even death on a cross! 9 Therefore God exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Phil 2:3-4: Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather in
humility, value others above yourselves not looking to your own
interests but each of you to the interests of the others.
Phil 4:2-3 “I plead with Euodia [name
means “Fragrance”] and I plead with Syntyche [name
means “Fortunate”] to be of the same
mind in the Lord. Yes and I ask you, my
true companion, help these women since
they have contended at my side in the
cause of the Gospel…”
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart as working for the Lord, not for men” (Colossians 3:23)
We should model ourselves after ChristPhil 2:5-8 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to His own advantage; rather, He made Himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to death - even death on a cross!
How To Live With One Another• 1 Thess 5:11 “Therefore encourage one another
and build each other up…” • Gal 6:2 “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this
way you will fulfill the law of Christ.” • Rom 14:3 “The one who eats everything must
not treat with contempt the one who does not, and the one who does not eat everything must not judge the one who does, for God has accepted them”.
• Rom 15:14 “I myself am convinced, my brothers and sisters, that you yourselves are full of goodness, filled with knowledge and competent to instruct one another.”
Mark 10:45 “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom
for many.”
Verses 9-11 “Therefore God exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus
Rom 10:9-10 “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and
believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be
saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is
with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.”
