A WORD FROM THE COMMANDER LEROY FURMAN AMERICAN LEGION POST113 JUNE-JULY 2016 SOUND OFF WE- (ROTONDA WEST AMERICAN LEGION POST 113) MUST KEEP MOVING FORWARD! We have been here for a number of years. Do you know where here is? Are you aware of the number of residents in our Zip Code areas that do not know how to find us? Why is that? Have you ever tried to tell someone who is new to the area how to get to the Post? Many of your neighbors do not know the Post is in their area. We are fortunate to have one of the very best Honor Guards in our entire geographic area and their pride shows. I want to congratulate the members for continuously promoting the Post. The shoulder patch says Rotonda West Veterans Honor Guard. The question often comes up where is that? Dont take these comments as being negative in any way. We are provided many opportunities to familiarize residents and visitors with who we are and where we are located. It might just be the right time, with the All Veterans Memorial Park locating adjacent to the Post, for us to print a map showing how to get to us. The project manager for the park has been changed. It appears that there may be a delay to bring him up to speed. The plans are for us to meet with him before the end of May. We will keep you posted as we get additional infor- mation due to some modifications being considered. Congratulations to Bill Miller being elected Commander of Post 113 for the year 2016-2017. There is no doubt he will get all the support he will need to have a successful year. He will certainly have my support. God bless all of you, your families, the people that keep us safe at home and all Service Members serving in harm’s way around the world and God Bless the USA. God Bless America! Leroy Furman, Past Commander Special Message!!! Members!!! Members!!! Members!!! Members!!! Special Message!!! The cost of mailing out the Sound Off News Letter is becoming prohibitive. We are asking all that receive our let- ter to once again reaffirm their need for a hard copy. Please send this page to: ATTN: Adjutant, American Legion Post 113, Rotonda West, FL 33947. It has been several years since we asked people if they needed a hard copy, in the ensuing years we have all become more tech. (digital) aware i.e. Cell Phones, Computers, Lap Tops, I Pads, Face Book (Rotonda West Legion Post) etc. The Sound Off has been updated on line and can be accessed by www.alp113, it has all of the information that is contained in the hard copy of the Sound Off. We will still print some (very few) copies that will be available at the Post. Currently we mail 290 copies of the News Letter to local zip codes. If you still need a hard copy please return this page of the Sound Off with your current address and signature.

Starting this summer, every issue of the Sound Off Newsletter will feature interviews with members of

service began in the army in 1968. He was assigned to Cleveland &

served in Puerto Rico as a Warrant Officer. His 23 year military career

included work as a CID Agent, & he was also stationed in Germany.

Bud has two children- A son stationed at Ft. Dix, N.J. & a daughter sta-

tioned at an Army Hospital in Stuttgart, Germany.

Bud has called Rotonda his home for the last 40+ yrs. & he fondly re-

members the popularity of the now defunct “Superstars” television

show starring Ed McMahon which was based in Rotonda (next to the Le-

gion).

Bud worked at the Fischer Body Plant for GM in Cleveland, the Mon-

roe Company on Boca Grande, & the Mercury-Marine plant that sits in
