Dear colleagues,I am grateful and honored on behalf of our medical staff for

being able to host this 4th Nepal Japan Neurosurgical Conference. It is a special opportunity for neurosurgeons from both Nepal and Japan for collaborating and developing friendship through discussing clinical problems faced daily.

The theme of this conference is “Brain Attack; prevention & management”. After World War II, stroke therapy in Japan has made dramatic progress. The knowledge for preventing stroke has spread and so too the progress of the stroke therapy. The mortality rate of stroke victims in Japan has decreased from 1st to 4th, following cancer, heart disease, and pneumonia. I estimate that in Nepal there is not yet comparable progress like in Japan with the knowledge and treatment for preventing strokes. It would be a great opportunity for both countries to spread the knowledge and technique to Nepal based on our experience and expand our vision by looking back the past.

This conference is held in Kathmandu, Nepal. I would like to welcome all of you to participate in this conference. I truly hope that neurosurgeons of both countries develop friendship and trust in order to expand neurosurgical progress.
