The 9-1-1 portion of the Emergency Services operation screens and transfers calls for five (5) police agencies. They are:

Emergency Management Coordinator: Doug Jones, EMT-BIEMDIHAZMAT Technician Emergency Management Technician: Jeff Robinson

In addition to ongoing in-house training, all personnel have been through the nationally recognized Medical Priority Dispatch progam and are also certified by the State of Maryland as Emergency Medical Dispatchers. All operators hired since July 1, 1997 have also been certified as Maryland Emergency Communications Specialist through a 40-hour program designed by the Maryland Emergency Number Systems Board and Dundalk Community College. The letters in the last column above indicate the certifications held by staff members.

EMT - Emergency Medical Technician -- B level EMD - Emergency Medical Dispatcher - requires 40 hours of training ECS - Emergency Communications Specialist

Facility Tours

Unfortunately due to the nature of the job, and the fact that the Operators on duty must be able to concentrate on what they are doing, facility tours are restricted to group tours only. These are generally civic organizations like the BoyIGirl Scouts, school class groups and neighborhood associations. These tours should be in groups of at least 5 and no more than 25 and generally last about 20 to 25 minutes. The Department of Emergency Services suggest as an alternative that we have one of our Operators come to your organizations meeting. We have slides and brochures available dealing with Communications and Emergency Management. The Operator will be able to explain what our job entails and take questions.

History Of The WiUards Lions

The Willards Lion Club was chartered on October 7, 1948, sponsored by Pittsville Lions Club.

The original Lions Den which was acquired in 1950 was totally destroyed by fire on February 14, 1990. A lot of fond memories and emotions went up in smoke with the loss of this building. It had taken an identity all to itself.

With eager determination, the small but ambitious Lions Club started to raise funds for a new building. The new building was to be constructed on the same site as the old one. They needed to raise $100,000.00 so construction could begin. The new building would cost a total of $600,000.00.

Their goal was reached and long with the State grants and five year mortgage for $150,00.00. which was obtained from the local bank, this dream came true. Ground was broken on May 4, 1990 and construction commenced on May 7, 1990. The building was completed on October 12, 1990, which was two days ahead of schedule. The grand opening was held November 17,1990, Since then the building is used almost daily by the Wiliards Community and surrounding areas.

Lion Jim Farlow was serving as President during the period of reconstruction. He and the total membership worked tirelessly to raise funds, oversee construction and carry on with their weekly bingo schedule.

Our ambulances are based from a van chassis and are classified as a type three ambulance. This type of ambulance has a walkway between the chassis and the ambulance box.

It will atso help decrease the number of calls for service that Henrico Police officers respond to that are more effectively handled by the citizens themselves, which will increase the number of officers available to handle priority calls for service.
