Introduction ______________________________________________________________________________________________________
Hi, I’m Jan. If you’re like me, when you got your first iPhone, you were happy that your contacts were transferred and you could answer a call! I remember getting home from the Verizon store, ready to dig into the manual and much to my surprise, there wasn’t one!
That’s where I come in. I’ve spent the past several years sorting through the confusion of the technology that we use in our day to day lives, and sharing the information that I find most useful and relevant. In this eBook, I go over 10 of my favorite iPhone features that I think are useful for everyone, but especially for people over 50. Special Note:
● In this guide, if I mention ‘go to Settings’, that means find this Settings
icon , and follow the options from there. Let me know if you get stuck!
● The screenshots in this document were taken on my iPhone 7, using iOS 10.3, in May of 2017. Your iPhone screen may look slightly different.
● Your feedback is always welcome! Email me at [email protected].

1 - Larger Icons and Controls ______________________________________________________________________________________________________
Your iPhone has a zoom feature that makes your icons and controls bigger and for me, bigger really is better. To turn on the zoom feature, go to Settings > Display & Brightness > Display Zoom and select Zoomed. Your iPhone will be restarted.

2 - Bigger and Bolder Text ______________________________________________________________________________________________________
You can also make the text on your iPhone bigger and bolder, which will appear in Messages, Mail, and other default apps. Not all apps support this feature, but you’ll appreciate the ones that do. To make text larger, go to Settings > Display & Brightness > Text Size and use the slider to increase the text size.

3 - Flashlight ______________________________________________________________________________________________________
You may be aware that your iPhone has a flashlight, but you may not know that if you have 3D touch (iPhone 6S and newer), you can vary the intensity. You can quickly access the flashlight in the control center, which is accessible by swiping up from any screen. And if you have 3D touch, when you press, you’ll see the options to vary the intensity of the flashlight.

4 - Compass and Level ______________________________________________________________________________________________________
You may not use these features every day, but knowing your iPhone has a built-in compass (including elevation) and level can come in handy. The compass is in the Compass App, which may be in the Extra’s folder. To enable elevation, go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services > Compass and select ‘while using’.

To add your emergency information, go to the Health App, and select the Medical ID option on the bottom right. Scroll down to find the edit button.
