1 Mechanics:The weapon list presented in this document is an adapted exotic item list to match the Third Edition rule set from previous supplements. The original weapons and their associated mechanics can be found in the books of the First and Second Edition rule set. 2 Crab Clan Vassal Families

Kakeguchi family (Hida vassal) Mon: A crab with a tessenInformation: The Kakeguchi family is the advisors of the Hida family, helping them manage the clan and

make everything work. Dominant School: Hida BushiBenefit: etiquette (bureaucracy)

Endo family (Hiruma Vassal) Mon: A tower in building Information: Kaiu Endo founded this family with a group of engineers that rebuilt Hiruma castle since it

was re-conquered by the Crab Clan.Dominant School: Kaiu engineerBenefit: engineering (construction).Special: can only join Hiruma and Kaiu schools.

Meishozo family (Kuni vassal) Mon: A Kuni mask in black

This family use her secrets to spy upon Shadowlands creatures. They use a spell named "Scent of the Taint" to make peoples believe they are lost.

Dominant School: Kuni shugenja.Benefit: deceit (Lying)Special: They have "Scent of the Taint" as a starting spell.

Fundai family (Kaiu vassal) Mon: A crab on a tide Information: This family trains the sailors and the shipwrights of the Crab clan that patrol the sea of

shadows.Dominant School: Kaiu engineerBenefit: craft: sailing or craft: Shipwrighting both with (Fundai style).

Kano family (Yasuki vassal) Mon: A carp fish with tools. Information: They are the artisans of the Crab clan, creating the utensils of the clan can sell or use to

decorate their houses because war is not everything in the world. Dominant School: Yasuki courtier.Benefit: any artisan skill (Kano style)

Nobuto family (Yasuki vassal) Mon: A carp with a tetsubo, then a carp and a crane. Information: They are the light infantry of the clan, the warrior of the Yasuki family. They joined Yasuki

Hachi when the family moved to the Crane, but they were happy to do like their daimyo and separated between the two clans.

Dominant School: Yasuki peacekeeper.Benefit: battle (skirmish).

Koebi family (Yasuki vassal) Mon: A pair of jitte Information: Founded by the ronin Koebi who get the nemuranai of the Koebi jitte, this family gets nearly

completely wiped out when Shiro Koebi got destroyed by a typhoon originating from the Sea of Shadows 2 years before the Scorpion clan coup. Family of warriors among the Yasuki, they trained guards for the Yasuki merchants and specialized themselves in the Jitte to avoid bloody feuds when dealing with drunken samurais when working in the Yasuki sake houses.

3 Crane Clan Vassal Families

Hiramichi family (Daidoji vassal) Mon: A crane claw with a cage in it Information: This family is born of Hiramori, founder of the Hiramichi family. They are the information

brokers of the Daidoji, the harrier liaison and informers. They also make sure the Daidoji forces are well equipped.

Dominant School: Daidoji trading council.Benefit: commerce (merchant).

Iwasaki family (Kakita vassal) Mon: A crane and a BiwaInformation: The Iwasaki train and rule the best geisha houses of the Crane clan, making sure they entertain

the wealthy of the Crane clan and Imperial.Dominant School: Kakita artisan.Benefit: etiquette (conversation)Special: Can have a servant: geisha for one less point

Morehei family (Doji Vassal) Mon: A palace being sunk by a wave, before a palace over the seaInformation: The Morehei family is nearly extinct. They train sailors for the ports of the Crane. They were

the owners of the Sea King palace, a magnificent palace that was standing over the sea by the power of the magic of the Asahina, but the palace sunk with all their wealth, leaving only a statue of Suitengu named the Sea King. No pearl diver has ever tried to go take the fortunes lost in the sunken palace.

Chaneko family (Asahina Vassal) Mon: A Crane beak going upInformation: The Chaneko are born of Doji Chaneko, a young samourai-ko who married an Asahina. This

family started a couple of years the creation of the Asahina family. After a generation, a couple of the children did not develop the ability to speak with the kami. These aberrations were fostered to others families and the Asahina kept their relations strong with the kami. Nevertheless, with every generation, a couple of children were without any magical talents, and the seers confirmed it would always be. Chaneko pledged that they should stop fostering them, as their line still carried the Gift of the Kami, and non-Asahina Crane shugenja were being forced back to the Asahina. Thus, the Chaneko family was born, to give a place to the Asahina who could not use magic. Their job was to protect the Asahina lands. They developed abilities with the bow, so they can be used as a warning to scare enemies, Furthermore, they could kill without actually being covered in blood.

4 Dragon Clan Vassal Families

Atsumaru family (Agasha Vassal) Mon: A dragon keeping a jar with winds going outInformation: This family job is to find material for the experiments of the Agasha. They number only a few

and only the members of the ruling family can give their name to their children. They followed the Agasha when they joined the Phoenix in the War against the Darkness.

Dominant School: Mirumoto bushi.Benefit: hunting (wilderness lore)

Chiyu family (Tamori Vassal)Mon: A dragon nursing a snakeInformation: This family was founded after the Spirit wars by a group of ronin shugenja who joined the

newborn Tamori family. They specialized in healing magic.Dominant School: Tamori shugenja.Benefit: medicine (herbalism).

Hiasoki family (Tamori Vassal) Mon: A dragon keeping an explosion in his handsInformation: This family studies the Kagaku, the explosives used by the Dragon clan and their capacities.Dominant School: Tamori shugenja.Benefit: explosives (kagaku)

4 Lion Clan Vassal Families

Goseki family (Matsu Vassal) Mon: A howling lion in red Information: Tsume Retsu of the Crane clan has exterminated this family when he cowardly attacked Toshi

Rambo. They were known for their brash tactics and relentless assaults. Many of these samurai come from the Matsu Berserkers.

Dominant School: Matsu berserker.Benefit: spears (magari-yari)

Hosokawa family (Ikoma Vassal) Mon: A scroll with a lion over it Information: The Hosokawa are the historians of the Lion clan, those who collect and keep the tales of the

heroes in their library for the Omodaisu and all who could need their tales of courage.Dominant School: Ikoma omoidasuBenefit: lore: history (Lion clan).

Murame family (Ikoma Vassal) Mon: A closed tessenInformation: The Murame train some of the best tacticians of the Ikoma family, but they are the keepers of

the secrets of the Ikoma’s tactics first. Dominant School: Ikoma Tactician.Benefit: battle (battle lore)

Noroko family (Kitsu vassal) Mon: A jade lion Information: The Noroko family is small, but has a very big and difficult job. They must hunt the corruption

that plagues the history of the Kitsu, especially after the corruption of the Kitsu Tombs.Dominant School: Kitsu shugenjaBenefit: Shadowland lore (oni lore)Special: They can join the Kuni shugenja school for no CP but get for free the obligation level 1:Kuni

family.

Ikeda family (Matsu vassal) Mon: A lion with a lightning Information: They train the best cavalry units of the lion clan, including the Wardens that protect the

imperial cities and the important Lion cities.Dominant School: Lion wardenBenefit: Horsemanship (mounted combat).

Shimizu family (this is not a vassal family) Mon: It have been erased from the official archives, but supposed to be a lion's head with a tsuba

within his jawsInformation: The Shimizu family has been once the fifth major family of the lion clan. They increased their

power quickly by taking control of Matsu lands before most of their members get corrupted by the power of the Shadowland by listening to the Tsuno. The last official member of this family took the name Giri (duty) and joined the Akodo family in shame.

Dominant School: Matsu berserker when it was an official family. Benefit: + 1 stamina

The fifth original family (this is not a vassal family) Mon: Never released officially. Information: At the Dawn of the Empire, they were a fifth Lion clan family. It disappeared during the first

centuries of the Empire by marrying Matsu women and taking their name.Dominant School: Matsu berserker or ronin warrior. Benefit: + 1 reflexes

Katai family (Akodo vassal) Mon: Half of a laurite crown and a swordInformation: This family gets her name from Akodo Katai, follower of Matsu Mochiko the Emerald

champion under the reign of Hantei Yugozohime. Mochiko was a ronin, but her true name was Matsu Mochihime and the truth of her past needed to be hidden. The first members of the family were the follower of the former ronin.

Damasu family (Akodo vassal) Mon: A lion curled on himself Information: The Damasu was a small family, completely wiped out with the Goseki by the fall of Shiro

Kyotei, their family castle, under the assaults of the blood-thirsty Tsume Retsu. The Damasu was know for their pikemen units, fast and skilled that was often used as reserves units to lead counter-attacks by quickly repelling fast enemy units and reinforcing the lines.

Dominant School: Akodo bushi.Benefit: Spears (Yari)

Daini family (Akodo vassal)Mon: A map with a little lion figurine on itInformation: The Daini family has a proud history going back to the Lion Clan’s foundation and the first

Shadowlands war. With the Lion armies growing, there was a growing need for attendance to the supply lines. Despite Akodo One-Eye being capable of protecting the supplies himself, he could not always ensure the supply lines followed the army. A lone samurai stepped forward to take charge of this task for his master. His name was Daini. He used a combination of Ikoma followers to get the supplies and then used his own men to carry the supplies to Akodo. The creation of this efficient supply train has become a tradition within the Lion Clan as they rely on their brethren for support.

Dominant School: Gunso.Benefit: battle (mass combat)Special: When they join the Gunso new path, they have two extra points station (Warlord) to spend on

supplies.

Hayameru family (Matsu vassal)Mon: The mon has a white lion face. After the betrayal of Shibai, bloody tears are below the eyes.Information: The founder of this vassal house was Matsu Hayameru, the white lioness. Despite being born

with a strange white hair, she proved her qualities as a chui and a warrior. She met her fate against the forming Fox clan, when the Lion took over the Ki-Rin lands. Because of her contributions, her new family was granted some of these captured lands and the name of the white lioness. A couple of decades later, Hayameru Shibai betrayed his clan for the Scorpion Clan during a siege. His vassals killed him and asked to be allowed to practice seppukku. The daimyo said ‘no’ and asked them to recover their honor on the battlefield, creating the concept of the Deathseeker

The family barely survived this betrayal, 90 % of the family members are Deathseekers, leaving only those that did not go through the gempukku or were assigned somewhere else. Again misfortune hit with the return of the Unicorn. This strange threat drove the family close to nigh extinction with the family being forced to move out of their holdings. Looking for redemption and a place in the Lion Clan, the young Hayameru samurai started a tradition of forming magistrates to be assigned in any Lion shiro. Lacking great holding for their family, they lived by small groups in others family holding. By becoming magistrates, they found redemption from Shibai’s betrayal.

Ashiryo family (Matsu vassal)Mon: A castle tower in the jaws of a Lion

Information: This family rules over the Hamana province, a sub-division of the Chuugen province north of Beiden pass. Hijiko is the daimyo, daughter of Ataka who joined the Brotherhood. The Ashiryo are warriors who have been granted name and lands among the numerous battles against the Scorpion Clan during centuries of fighting surrounding Beiden Pass. Matsu Ashiryo himself was the one who took Shiro no Meiyo, renamed Kenson Gakka (L14) in the name of the Lion clan, and was rewarded with the fortress. The Ashiryo are talented warriors, and claims to train excellent guards to protect their lands of the Scorpion spies.

5 Mantis Clan Vassal Families

Hoji family (Yoritomo vassal) Mon: A CriquitInformation: The Hoji family is the Mantis Clan’s oldest vassal family. It was created under the rule of the

Gusai family and has survived the years as a family of merchants. The Hoji oversee and manage trades for the Mantis sailors to any person who had the money for the Mantis’s merchandise. Unfortunately, with the rise of the Hogosha family, the Hoji’s influence has eroded.

Dominant School: Yoritomo courtier.Benefit: Commerce (merchant)

Storm wind (Yoritomo vassal) Mon: A storm cloudInformation: Not really a family in the terms before Kitao united them, the Storm wind are the ninjas, spies

and others saboteurs of the Mantis clan. They act in secret, in the dark and in the dishonor of their function for the glory of the Mantis.

Dominant School: Yoritomo bushi.Benefit: Stealth (sneaking)

Rolling wave (Yoritomo vassal) Mon: A rolling waveInformation: They are the pirates and the smugglers of the Mantis clan, those who do all their life the dirty

job of the Mantis fleet for the name of the Mantis champion. Dominant School: Yoritomo bushi.Benefit: Deceit (lying)

Suguru family (Tsuruchi vassal) Mon: A wasp with a starInformation: This family train the few shugenja of the former Wasp clan. They use their mystical powers to

hunt the criminals like their bushi siblings. Dominant School: traditional priest.Benefit: divination (astrology).Special: Can pay clear thinker for one less point

5 Phoenix Clan Vassal Families

Nani family (Asako Vassal) Mon: A golden path with a torii of flamesInformation: The job of the Nani is to hunt the Asako who are following the false paths and to bring them

back to the normal paths. Dominant School: Isawa shugenja (Air).Benefit: investigation (search)

Sesai family (Shiba Vassal) Mon: A phoenix curled on himselfInformation: The Sesai are the spies and ninjas of the Phoenix, those who sacrifice everything, including

their honor for the Isawa. They have secrets and are reclusive about their family’s history.Dominant School: Shiba bushi or Yojimbo.Benefit: Stealth (shadowing).Special: Can’t join any other schools than their dominant school.

Iga family (Shiba Vassal) Mon: The name Iga in flamesInformation This family is nearly unknown from all the clan, nothing important in their history expects

their founding in the first centuries of the Empire at the testimony of the original Iga, who fought against the Steel Chrysanthemum. Some secret knowledge is that the daimyo's son, Iga Suru, saved Otomo Jama before creating his own vassal family, under the name Jama Suru.

Dominant School: Asako courtier.Benefit: any artisan skill (Iga style).Special: Use the kharma rule if you died for defending peace.

6 Scorpion Clan Vassal Families

Rokugo (Bayushi vassal) Mon: A mask shaped like a scorpionInformation: The Rokugo are responsible of illegal and dirty activities of the Scorpion clan (smuggling,

thievery, opium...)Dominant School: Bayushi saboteur.Benefit: deceit (intimidation)

Jitsuyoteki (Shosuro vassal)Mon: A scorpion trapped in a netInformation: The Jitsuyoteki family was founded during the first rise of the Gozoku. They were to be the

organization’s secret police that would silence those who giving too much trouble for the Gozuku. It was this family’s tireless work that led to the discovery of Hantei VI’s spy network within the Brotherhood of Shinsei .

Although, Shosuro Jitsuyoteki and Jitsuyoteki leadership were executed as Gozuku conspirators during the fall of the first Gozoku, the family was not entirely destroyed. Rather the new daimyo, Jitsuyoteki Amachi, found a new purpose for his family. They would be the secret police of the Scorpion clan. This ploy would fail as Kochako family would usurp this role and leave the family without purpose.

Tokagure (Shosuro vassal) Mon: A scorpion with a white and red flowerInformation: The Tokagure are the keepers of the infamous Shosuro garden, a small family of herbalists

trained in the delicate arts of creating poisons.Dominant School: Shosuro actor.Benefit: Poison (Pick an Emphasis)

Naganori family (Yogo vassal) Mon: A scorpion and a swordInformation: The Naganori are the warriors of the Yogo family, hunting those who fell to the Dark lord and

the spawn of the Shadowlands.Dominant School: Bayushi bushi.Benefit: hunting (tracking)Special: Yogo's curse. Can only join Bayushi and Yogo schools.

7 Unicorn Clan Vassal Families

Suio family (Ide vassal) Mon: A mouth Information: The Suio's job has existed since they were founded to teach the Ki-rin leaders about the

customs and the habits of the peoples where they was living in Rokugan.Dominant School: Ide emissary.Benefit: Lore: Burning Sands (factions)

Kenshin family (Iuchi vassal) Mon: A sword with a unicorn behind itInformation: The shugenja of this family are only women, and show some of the most extraordinary talents

in the clan. The men are cursed for an unknown reason and are never able to be shugenja, so they became excellent yojimbos.

Dominant School: Iuchi shugenja.Benefit: Lore: Ancestors (Unicorn clan)Special: The males cannot be a shugenja.

Hyuga family (Utaku vassal) Mon: A fire horse’s head with reinsInformation: This family is formed of stables-masters and other caretakers of mounts. They are the children

of the first one to tame the famous Utaku mounts.Dominant School: Utaku Infantry.Benefit: animal handling (horses).

Hateru family (Shinjo vassal) Mon: A mist horse Information: A long time ago, when the Ki-rin left for the Burning sands, they left some of the clan behind.

They formed the Fox clan expect the followers of Ide Hateru, who joined the Dragon clan, where they stayed here until the return of their clan. Some joined back the Unicorn clan, but others are still living with the Dragon. They are the ninas and the spies of the Unicorn clan.

8 Imperial Family Vassal Families

Jama (Otomo vassal) Mon: N\A Information: This small vassal family was granted to Shiba Iga Suru, the now infamous Jama Suru, after he

saved the life of Otomo Jama, who later became the bloodspeaker Iuchiban. Jama Suru have been the only recorded member of this family, as no one would accept to wears the name of a follower of the founder of the Bloodspeaker cult.

7 Ronin Vassal Families

Koga family Information: The Koga is not an officially recognized ronin family by the Emperor like the Tsi or the Yotsu.

This group of ninja, spies and assassins swear to put an end to the nobility of Rokugan to have more power to the lower samura classes. They are mostly criminals to the Emperor's justice.

Dominant School: ronin duelist.Benefit: Stealth (ambush).Special: + 1 awareness

Sanada Snakes Information: The Sanada Snakes are not a family; they are a jizumai of wako (pirates) that live on the Crane

coast. They take their name of Sanada the pirate king, and have their own school.Dominant School: ronin warrior.Benefit: craft: sailing (wako style)Special: Starting glory: - 1 infamy

Red Dawn Information: The Red Dawn is like the Sanada Snakes, a jizumai of pirates. They attack the ships in the

Phoenix seas and are known to never show mercy, killing everybody. They have their own school.
