If you are using an older version than 2.6.2 of the 3Com Desktop Communicator, please uninstall (see

chapter “Uninstallation” in the 3Com Desktop Communicator User Guide) the older version before you

install the new version.

Upgrading to Outlook Edition

If you are using a non-Outlook edition of the 3Com Desktop Communicator, you do NOT need to

uninstall the client before upgrading to the 3Com Desktop Communicator Outlook Edition. You

simply need to do the following:

i) The VCX Phone profile needs to be updated to accept softphone Outlook edition registrations.

ii) 3Com Desktop Communicator Outlook Edition Upgrade Licenses must be installed on the VCX.

iii) a) Go offline then online from the 3Com Desktop Communicator presence options to force the re-

registration of the client with the VCX server.

or

iii) b) Shutdown the 3Com Desktop Communicator client and restart the application.

This will cause the client to now function as the Outlook Edition.

Rule 1: If phone number is >6 and no leading “+” and Country Code in Regional Specific Settings is 1

the Regional Specific Settings followed by the number as entered by the user.

Rule 2: If phone number is >6 and no leading “+” and Country Code in Regional Specific Settings is 1

Regional Specific Settings and the number as entered by the user.

Additional dial rule information

1. If “( )” are used, there is a leading “+” followed by the Country Code needed.

2. If local dialing is always long distance formatted, then “99999” need to be entered as Area Code in

the Regional Specific Settings (NOT empty or other number!).

Dialing in ITU format

Numbers will be formatted in ITU standard (+<Country Code><Area Code><Number>) according to

the values entered within the Regional Specific Settings of the 3Com Desktop Communicator when

using a “+” in front of the phone number.

If number starts with “+”, the 3Com Desktop Communicator will dial Outbound Line , International

Prefix or Long Distance Prefix entered in the Regional Specific Settings (when user has not already

entered them manually) followed by the number. Therefore it is important to secure correct Regional

Specific Settings entries and to save phone numbers in the correct ITU format.

With a leading 0 in Area and/or Country codes within the Regional Specific Settings, calls will fail

when ITU format (leading “+”) is used. Therefore always enter Area and Country codes within the

Regional Specific Settings without a leading “0”.
