2015, 29th – 31st January: University Children’s Hospital Zurich, Switzerland
Dear Colleagues
We invite you and welcome you to the third Basic Course of Paediatric Echocardiography of the Association of European Paediatric and Congenital Cardiology ; for the second time we have the honour to organize the course here in Zurich. This is a joint course with the Swiss Society of Neonatology and the Swiss Socie ty of Paediatric Cardiology.
Echocardiography is the basic instru-ment – after clinical examination – in the hands of every paediatric cardi-ologist. Echocardiography provides fundamental information on the anatomy, physiology and function of both, normal and malformed hearts. During the neonatal period echocar-diography is increasingly used for understanding and managing haemo-dynamics in sick patients. After the success of last year, the course will maintain the same struc-ture and offer lectures on the basic technical aspects of echocardiogra-phy, the systematic approach of imaging of the normal heart and will also give an overview of all major
congenital heart diseases. The imag-ing concepts are completed by dem-onstration of anatomical specimens, shown in relation with the different echocardiographic views. Beside the well proved sessions on echocardiography of the neonate, this year the course includes a special lecture on the surgical anatomy for echocardiographers. We will also repeat the popular hands-on sessions in both paediatric and neonatal echocardiography. The course is considered to be an initial step in the preparation pro-cess for the accreditation examina-tion organized by the Association of European Paediatric and Con-genital Cardiology and/or for the core level expertise in targeted neonatal echocardiography. A final mock examination will test the acquired knowledge of the audience.
We are very happy to be able to offer such a varied and complete program and to host a highly qualified faculty. We look forward to meeting a large audience of junior paediatric cardio- logists, neonatologists, and intere- sted paediatricians.
