The St. Thomas Becket Adult Choir enjoyed a delicious dinner at Buca di Beppo in Wheeling on

Wednesday, March 23. We thank each of the members

for all of their rehearsal time, for giving so graciously of their

talents and for leading the congregation in song throughout the year!

Choir practices will resume in September – all are welcome!

St. Thomas Becket’s Spiritual Reading, Reflection & Faith-Sharing group that meets weekly on Wednesday, after the 9 am Mass-- is “Making Connections” with each other & members from St. Al’s Parish. Fr. Nouwen’s book, Here and Now—Living in the Spirit, is a great guide to living in the Present with the Presence of God. Books are provided for new members—“All are Welcome, All are Welcome, in This Place.” Questions? CORPUS CHRISTI (Latin for Body of Christ) — JUNE 3 This year, once again, in a very special way our parish will celebrate this Feast. Everyone is invited to participate in a bilingual Mass at 11:00am and then a procession to the four altars that will be erected around our church for that day. All First Communion children, children and adults in traditional regional costumes are strongly encouraged to participate, all are welcome.

Please note that the 11:00am bilingual Mass will be INSTEAD OF the 10:45am and 12:30pm Masses.

Uroczystość Najświętszego Ciała i Krwi Chystusa przypada w tym roku w niedzielę 3-go czerwca. W tym roku ponownie zapraszamy na przeżycie tego święta w bardzo specjalny i uroczysty sposób. Rozpoczniemy dwujęzyczną Mszą Św. o godz 11:00am po czym procesja do czterech ołtarzy wokół kościoła. Serdecznie zapraszmy wszystkie dzieci pierwszo-komunijne, dziewczęta i chłopców z koszyczkami kwiatów do sypania i z dzwoneczkami. Dorosłych również zachęcamy do ubrania się w stroje regionalne i do wzięcia udziału w tej pięknej tradycyjnej procesji. DOMESTIC VIOLENCE OUTREACH A few weeks ago, Deacon Peery Duderstadt spoke powerfully and dramatically at all of our Sunday liturgies concerning the very real and difficult issue of Domestic Violence. There is a movement in the archdio-cese to develop programs within each parish to face this issue and to help people to reach out for the assistance they need. I am pleased to report that few parishioners have stepped forward to begin this crucial ministry here at St. Thomas Becket. Guided by the models established by the Office of Domestic Violence Outreach of the Archdiocese of Chicago, the mission of this ministry is to provide awareness and education about Domestic Violence with the desired hope of preventing such violence, and referring those affected by violence to the appropriate organizations in our community who can provide needed support and guidance. The primary objectives of our parish-based Domestic Abuse Outreach Ministry is to: (1) Give strength and courage to victims/survivors and their families to come forward without fear; (2) Prepare ministry members to understand domestic abuse, and know how to respond with compassion, confidentiality and respect; (3) Connect with local resources that help victims/survivors make personal choices to free themselves from abuse; (4) Ultimately, prevent abuse through education. The U. S. Catholic Bishops stated in their Pastoral Letter, “When I Call for Help” that “Violence against women, inside or outside the home, is never justified, and it is a sin and often a crime….No one is expected to stay in an abusive marriage.” The reality is that domestic violence occurs in all communities at nearly the same rate regardless of religion, socioeconomic status, ethnicity, age or education. Children raised in families with domestic violence are at greater risk of being victims or perpetrators themselves and are more likely to experience low academic performance, school dropout, drug and alcohol abuse, and even suicide. Our parish ministry members are not professional counselors. Their primary role is to raise awareness of the prevalence of domestic violence and its effects on people’s lives, and encourage those who are suffering abuse to seek help. Question: What are the "fruits" of holy Communion?

Answer: The Eucharist, like all sacraments, offers its own unique grace. We

receive a special share in God's life that helps us in our faith journey.

We are given all we need to sustain and nurture our

relationship with God. The Eucharist is the source and summit of the Christian life.

Everything we are and everything we hope to become is found in this sacrament. It is essential to the life of the church, to each

member of the church. Without it, there is no church. The Eucharist is the center of our spiritual life

and has enormous effects on our growth, our holiness, and our way

of life.

The fruits of holy Communion are the benefits one receives from the

sacrament. These fruits of holy Communion are discussed in the

catechism in the article on the Eucharist. The primary benefit is

union with Christ. We become one with him sacramentally, just as we hope to become one with him for

eternity. The Eucharist also separates us from sin, both past and future. It forgives the venial sins of the past and, by the love

we receive, protects us from mortal sin in the future. The

church community is also unified and strengthened by the

Eucharist. It unites us to the poor and offers the pledge of eternal

life.
