January 4, 2021, started our new adventure intothe Neighborhood Oriented Policing. We havebeen operating in this capacity for 6 months now.One of our primary focuses were to increasetraffic enforcement by way of radar operations throughout the Northwest in effort to slow downcitizens to keep them safe and reduce crashes. As of June 25, 2021, we have issued citations onthe Northwest Quarter of the city. Please slowdown and adhere to the posted speed limits.

I would l ike to take an opportuni ty to recognize ourof f icers who have been awarded of f icer 's of themonth for their act ions .

On Apri l 8 , 2021 , of f icers responded to an assaul t ca l l onHughes Street . Off icers located the v ict im who wassuf fer ing f rom upper body in jur ies and the v ict im ’svehic le was miss ing . Off icer 's on scene ass is ted indetermining the detai ls of the miss ing vehic le . Thevigi lance of Off icer Bol l ing and another of f icer made i tpossib le to quick ly locate the vehic le on the Northside oftown and ident i fy a suspect . Detect ives responded to thescene and the suspect was charged with two fe lonies .

On May 20 , 2021 , Off icer P ickre l answered a ca l lregarding a thef t . Unknown to him at the t ime , thesuspect in this incident had severa l outstanding casesbefore the court and was prepared to take extremesteps to avoid arrest . Whi le making the arrest , thesuspect at tempted to escape f rom Off icer P ickre l . Dur ing the escape at tempt , Off icer P ickre lappropr iate ly used empty hand control techniques tocontain the suspect and then used de-escalat iontechniques to de-escalate the incident f rom the levelat ta ined. Off icer P ickre l was very profess ional wi th thesuspect af ter he was no longer considered a threat . The suspect was arrested for mult ip le of fenses .

Here is a review of our crime stats for the first half the year from January 2021 through June2021. Using this information we will decide how to move forward for the remainder of theyear. We anticipated an increase in some crimes, with the relaxing of the executive orders inremoving restrictions by the Governor Northam but also predicted an uptick with yearlytrends.
