Updates and Reminders for the week of June 3, 2019
2nd Grade: Mrs. Baumann, Mr. Hunsicker, Mrs. Laufer, Mrs. Lengle, Ms. McEntire
This Week We… E.L.A.
● Students worked hard this week editing their rough draft biographies, and preparing their final drafts in paragraph form!
Math ● We ended our unit on subtraction
although we will continue to review it until the end of the year.
Science/Social Studies ● Students watched caterpillars transform
into butterflies this week through metamorphosis! We compared the offspring of an animal with the parent to see similarities and differences!
Next Week We Will… E.L.A.
● This week, as we prepare our 2nd graders to transition to 3rd grade, we will introduce strategies for answering comprehension questions on reading passages.
Math ● We are starting a new unit on graphing.
Our goals are: Interpret and create picture/bar graphs with 4 categories of information; Use graphs to solve word problems.
Science/Social Studies ● We will finish our biography writing
this week, and begin working on practicing for the wax museum!
Word Work ● We will take an assessment on
Wednesday 6/5 over homophones. Then we will learn about compound words. The words on the 6/12 assessment will be:

hotdog fishbowl
popcorn teacup

Food Pantry Help Our Food Pantry is quickly becoming depleted. Please consider sending some nut-free healthy
snacks to school with your Champion for his/her classroom. This will help our Food Pantry, but also keep students in class as we move through these
last 5 weeks of school that are PACKED with review and important end of year activities.

Dates to Remember This Week!
Visual Arts K-5 Coming up! Fine arts showcase, June 7th 5-7:00 pm, The Salvage Station, K-12th grade If your champion has submitted artwork to display during the showcase, they will bring home a special invitation. Although not every champion will have work on display, all are welcomed and encouraged to attend. There will be work and performances from all of the fine arts throughout the entire school. Attendance for students with work on display is optional as well. Art room needs: Yarn any color! Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd These champions are beginning a self portrait project. We are focusing on proportions.
PE K-2 The students are continuing to work on their soccer skills like dribbling, kicking and passing. The focus for the students is to be able to dribble a soccer ball while keeping control of their body and ball. The games that reinforce these skills are Dribble Tag and Tunnel Dribble. Thank you to all the families that participated in the teacher appreciation week. I really felt the love and appreciation from all. I was particularly touched by the personal cards the children sent. It meant so much to me to see that the children love coming to my class. Spanish 2-3 Our current unit is Quiero Hacer Ejercicio (I want to exercise). Vocabulary focuses on different ways to exercise. We finished our story so this week champions will match sentences to pictures in our Gallery Walk.

Baptist Church! Our Champions will be performing in two groups.
- The first group will include champions in Mrs. Nilo, Mrs. Hanna, and Mrs. Stiefel's classes. Champions in this group will need to arrive at 5:00, to prepare for a 5:30 performance!
- The second group will include champions from Mrs. Ellis and Mrs. Smith's classes. Champions in this group will need to arrive at 6:15 to prepare for a 6:45 performance.
All champions should wear uniform top (Grey, Black, or Navy) and uniform bottoms. See you there! Kingfisher Kick Around Soccer Camp! Here is the flyer and the link to sign up
for the first annual Kingfisher Kick Around Soccer Camp!
Who: This is a camp open to the public and to IC
Imagine students alike (Rising K through grade 8!)
When: July 29th - Aug 2nd, 8:00 - 11:30
Cost: The payment for the camp covers Kingfisher Kick Around Camp 2019
Skill Level: We are accepting all skill levels. We will
divide the players into appropriate age groups of around 10.
Advertise: Please pass this information along to
friends and family. This is our only fundraiser for the year (hopefully), and we think we can hit our goal of $5,000 with this camp. We welcome students from other schools, so please share this information with
your friends who have students at other schools!
Summer Reading Book Fair Plan to join us between 4 and 7pm on Thursday
June 6th at Barnes and Noble in Biltmore Park for our Summer Reading Book Fair!
Fill the House
This is our newest initiative to raise the funds necessary to purchase the seats in our new

Parent-Teacher Book Club
Join us for our parent-teacher book club on June 11 at 5:30. We will discuss The Growth Mindset by
Carol Dweck. We infuse the growth mindset into our culture at IC Imagine. Our discussion will
focus on the correlation of a growth mindset at school and home. We will meet in Mrs. Laufer's

Revenue: This money will help to cover all the needing equipment for our growing soccer program.
