SEALING MEMORYThe Velan sealing memory is induced into the seatsduring the assembly process. When the ball isinserted into the valve body during assembly, itpartially flattens the seat, creating a tensile stress inthe center of the seat. As a result, the seat core increases in diameter fromD1 to D2 and like a stretched elastic band pushesagainst the ball. This ensures reliable sealing evenat vacuum or low pressures.

SEAT STRENGTHA seat in tension is stronger than a seat incompression because the tensile strength of PTFE intension is 3600 psi versus only 1800 psi for PTFE in compression. Greater strength means less fatigue, superior sealing ability and longer cycle life.

CAVITY PRESSURE RELIEFMemory seal seats are designed to relieveoverpressure in the ball/body cavity. This capabilityis influenced by many variables including: fluidcharacteristics, variations in pressure, seatmaterials, seat compression, temperature andthermal cycles.

Positive release of cavity overpressure to theupstream side is assured in bypassing the upstreamseat through a drilled hole in the ball. This option ispreferred in certain services such as liquid chlorine.

Pressure relief when the valve is in the openposition is always through the vent in the top of theball adjacent to the stem connection.

SUMMARY OF MEMORYSEAL BENEFITS

● SEATS ”IN-TENSION“

- Greater strength

- Less fatigue

- Positive bi-directional shutoff

- Compensate for temperature fluctuations

- Uniform torque

- High cycle life

- Eliminate cold flow effects

● LARGER SEATING AREA

- Superior sealing

LOWER TORQUESVelan “in-tension” seats produce more uniformtorque because the seat deflects into the cavitybehind it to accommodate slight differences inmachining tolerances or the normal expansion ofPTFE as temperature increases. PTFE expandsapproximately seven times as much as metal.

In order to achieve the required stempacking capability and performancewithin the limited space in thesesmaller valves, an impressive andunique 3-way sealing system has been developed. This 3-way sealingsystem provides the following:a) Live-loaded cup and cone PTFE seal.b) Primary PTFE seal.c) Independently loaded fire safe

graphite packing.

• Low emission stem sealA unique 4-way seal assures low emissions with TA-LUFT Accreditation (less than 1 ppm allowance). The first seal is on the stem shoulder. Next, the maincup and cone PTFE seal, precompressed (3000 psi) isself-adjusting under live-loading with two springwashers. A third seal, fire-safe graphite packing, isindependently loaded and remains unaffected by theburnout of the main packing during fire. Finally, twoO-ring seals provide additional seal performance. Themain stem seal does not require adjustment orattention. A flanged 2-piece gland design providesadditional reliability.

• Fully guided stemLower and upper bearings prevent stem wobblingand leakage due to side thrust on stem.

• Anti-static designBall-spring devices eliminate static electrical build upbetween stem, ball and body.

• Blowout-proof stemThe internally assembled and back seated stemprovides blowout-proof safety.

• Fire tested The valves are designed, tested andcertified to meet the requirements of API 6FA, API 607 Rev. 4 and BS6755 part 2.

UB-150/300 UNIBODY REGULAR PORT FLANGED MEMORY SEAL BALL VALVESCAST CARBON OR STAINLESS STEEL, 1⁄2 –12" (15–300 mm)

COMPLETE WITH ISO MOUNTING PAD, BRACKET,

DRIVER AND ACTUATOR

DESIGN FEATURES:● Single piece body

The Unibody memory seal ball valves have asingle body with lower weight, higher strength, eliminating the possible body-body end leak pathon split-body design. Sleeve threads areprotected by a PTFE seal.

● Memory-seal seats (U.S. Patent 3,384,341)The seats compensate automatically for wear andpressure-temperature fluctuations with uniqueperformance even at very low line pressure. (See Page 2 for details).

● Unique 0-leakage stem seal

The stem seal meets API 598 and the moststringent emission requirements such as TA-LUFTwith less than 1 ppm leak rate. (See page 3 for more details).

● Meets worldwide technical specifications

Design BS5351, API 608, ASME/ANSI B16.34, faceto face ANSI B16.10, fire testing BS6755 part 2, API 607 Rev. 4, API 6FA, performance testingBS6755 API 598 and ISO for all parameters ofstandardized valve automation.

● Standard corrosion resistant trim

Stainless steel ball and stem on all stainless steeland carbon steel valves.

● Special applications (see pages 10-11).● Highest standards of quality

Velan has earned over its 50 years of productionactivities a worldwide reputation for quality indesign, manufacturing and valve performance.

APPLICATIONS:

These rugged, versatile, high performance ballvalves meet requirements for oil and gas pipelineservice and meet NACE specification MR01.75 for sour gas.

The valves can handle a vast variety of fluids, slurries, semi-solids and almost any corrosiveservice in chemical, oil, petrochemical, gas, pulp, paper processing and other industries.
