Hurricane ReadyResidential Garage DoorsDetermine Your Requirements

Step 1:Determine the minimum wind speed (MPH) your door must meet or exceed from the map below, or go to www.atcouncil.org/windspeed. Determine if wind borne debris is applicable. See map below.

Wind Borne DebrisThe wind borne debris region is also known as those areas that require the large missile impact rated door and/or windows. In Florida, being farther south and closer to the shoreline, it is more likely a home or building will be in the wind borne debris region or HVHZ (High Velocity Hurricane Zone - Miami-Dade and Broward counties).

Miami-Dade and Broward Counties require all garage doors meet the large missile impact rating, regardless if the garage door has windows or not.

Insurance companies sometimes give discounts for garage doors and other exterior building products that exceed the local building code, including meeting wind borne debris requirements not mandated. This means that installing a new garage door with the large missile impact rating may reduce your insurance premiums. Please check with your insurance agent for details.

Step 2:Determine if your home is in an Exposure B, Exposure C or Exposure D region.

Exposure BUrban and suburban areas, wooded areas or other terrain with numerous closely spaced obstructions.

Exposure COpen terrain with scattered obstructions, including flat open ground and grasslands. All of Miami-Dade and Broward Counties is Exposure C, unless it meets Exposure D definition.

Exposure DWithin 600 ft. of the ocean front or other large body of water, measuring at least 5,000 ft. across. Contact building code official or DASMA Technical Data Sheet #155t for design pressures.

Step 3:Determine the structural type of your home: one story or two story.

Step 4:Using wind speed (MPH), exposure and structural type, find your required design pressure. See chart on opposite page.

Hurricane Ready™ Reinforcing SystemRaynor provides a wide range of residential garage door models that meet the demands of the most rigorous wind load or impact rating guidelines. Raynor wind load systems meet or exceed the Florida Building Code (FBC) and are tested to ANSI/DASMA 108 & 115. Additionally, Raynor offers several models that meet Miami-Dade product requirements (TAS 201, 202, 203).

Horizontal Trussing

Raynor Hurricane Ready reinforcing systems utilize horizontal trussing, made from high-tensile steel box struts or u-bars, to create a door system built to withstand hurricane force winds.

Single or double end stiles are provided depending on wind load specifications. Both feature Raynor's heavy-duty diamond hinges.

Raynor's box strut design (Patent Pending) features a yellow cap at each end for safety and visibility.

Raynor's high-strength rollers are designed and tested to withstand hurricane force winds.

Vertical Post(s)

Raynor's hurricane post(s) are installed prior to a hurricane and provide strength right where you need it.

The top of the post is anchored to the header with heavy-duty galva-nized hardware.

The middle of the door is strapped to the post to prevent the door from being pulled out of the opening from negative wind forces.

The bottom of the post is pinned to the floor with heavy-duty galva-nized hardware.
