28th February 2013 - Week 4 Term 1 Safety reminder at the School Gate and Bus Bay! The bus drivers have been unable to get into the bus bay a few mornings this last few weeks. Please do not stop in the bus bay between 8.20 and 9.00. Also in the afternoons busses pick up at 2.55, 3.15 and 3.40. The busses need to be able to get off the road safely. I’d also like to remind parents of the need for care around the school gates. Often when parents are walking their children to the car they are allowing them to walk or scooter on the edge of the road and at times way ahead and out of their control. If you are parked by the hall please use the side gate as it keeps the children well off the road. Children are not allowed to cross the road on their own. Either drive into the bus bay or walk them to the school gate. Parents at times stop to talk to someone outside the gate and their children stand around the edge of the island in the bus bay, often on the edge of the road. Remember the speed limit is 70km past school and at that speed survival if hit would be unlikely. Could drivers avoid parking on the yellow no –parking lines or on the verge on the Pohara side of school (see photos) as it blocks the bus and car drivers view of the road and they have to edge out onto the road before they can get a clear view of the traffic. There is less congestion once the Wainui bus has left at around 3.15pm, which means parents can pull into the bus bay to collect their children. Most people are vigilant and we all want our children to be safe, however I thought it was timely to remind everyone of the need for care. Rocky Shore Study Next Wednesday 6 th March we will be heading to Patons Rock for a whole school study of the rocky shore. We need several parents per class to supervise small groups of children at the rock pools. We will be travelling to Patons Rock by bus leaving at 9.15am and returning by 2.30pm. Parents are very welcome to come along to help the children with their investigating and share lunch with us later. The plan for the day is: Leave for Patons Rock Investigate the rock pools Lunch Swim / beach activities Head back to school Children will need: Togs / towel Lunch / Drink / Snacks Sunhat Each class will have an area of high tide, mid tide and low tide pools to study where they will be encouraged to note differences of conditions and creatures in each area. Motupipi School Triathlon Due to the Senior Tinbum Triathlon not happening this year and 90% of the Junior Tinbum competitors coming from Motupipi School we have decided not to run the Junior Tinbum Triathlon this year and instead hold our own school triathlon. We plan to do this on Friday 22 March .The venue is to be confirmed. All children will be expected to take part with races adjusted to suit the age of the children. Cricket Coaching Tomorrow morning 1st March, Jon Routhan ,the cricket development officer in Nelson, will work with each of our classes on cricket skills. 2012 Dates Term 1 7th Feb - 19th April Term 2 6 May - 12th July Term 3 29 July - 27th Sept Term 4 14th Oct - 20th Dec Motupipi School Contact Details: 435 Abel Tasman Drive Takaka 7183 Phone: 03 525 9986 EMAIL: [email protected] Or: [email protected] Internet Banking No: 03 1711 0013347 00 What's happening this Term….. Room 3’s Fabulous Tadpole Drawings

One night in bed I was having a good dream. Unfortunately I fell off a cliff. Fortunately I fell into water. Unfortunately I could not swim. Fortunately I found a boat. Unfortunately a shark came. Fortunately I woke up from my dream. Unfortunately in the morning there was a tornado. Fortunately I jumped out the window. Unfortunately when I landed I broke my leg. Fortunately it healed in one day. Unfortunately I walked into a jungle. Fortunately I found a pocketknife. Unfortunately a tiger attacked me. Fortunately I was skilled with the pocketknife so I stabbed the tiger. I was free again. Jaiden

One day there was a girl walking in a desert. Unfortunately there was a camel spider that was scampering towards her.

Fortunately a giant bird grabbed her and flew away. Unfortunately it was a dinosaur bird.

Fortunately it dropped her. Unfortunately she fell.

Fortunately a man swung out and caught her. Unfortunately he was an alien and he took her to his spaceship.

Fortunately a camel came running and crashed into the alien and he ran into his spaceship and flew away.

Unfortunately it blew out flames and burnt her to death. THE END

Zoe

One bright sunny morning I was doing some school work and suddenly Diarmuid got reeeeeally angry and was just about to tell me off for making a mistake when … Fortunately the bell rang for morning tea. Unfortunately he was still cranky after morning tea and told me off for making one little mistake. Fortunately Heidi had a bar of chocolate in her pocket and gave it to Diarmuid, that cheered him up. Unfortunately when we were playing soccer someone kicked the ball and it hit Diarmuid in the nose. U-oh! Fortunately Diarmuid didn’t get too mad because the person who kicked the ball in Diarmuid’s nose said sorry. Unfortunately when we were swimming Mr. Cullen was squirting us with the hose when someone crept up behind him and scared him. Too late! Diarmuid was soaked… and very angry. Fortunately we had a different teacher that afternoon. Whewf! Unfortunately we were in the middle of a really cool science project when the bell rang. Orrrr! Fortunately today was Friday. Yay! Weekend tomorrow!
