Each one of us is pre- cious, irreplaceable, made for greatness. It might sound overblown, even vain. But thats what Christmas says. You matter so much, that God would become one of us – for your sake! Its news Christians never tire of telling. Its what inspires so much good they do in families, parishes, schools, hospitals, welfare, missions. It inspires our ef- forts to support farmers and all affected by drought. It inspires our brave firefighters and our care for those struggling after personal disaster. The Christmas Babe speaks to every human need because He came for every human person. So powerful was that message that the angels broke into song, the leaders brought gold, frankincense and myrrh, the workers came with their sheep. Every human being matters,God said. Every human being matters, they echoed. Not everyone agreed. Herod was so threatened by the message of human dignity and redemption, he sought to kill the Baby Jesus. The slaughter of the innocentscontin- ues to this day: unborn innocents, more endangered than ever in this state of New South Wales; newborn innocents, the disabled and unwanted; oppressed innocents, including persecuted Christians and detained asylum seekers; elderly innocents, in substandard aged care and threatened with euthanasia. Christmas presents us with a choice. To join Herod in saying only some people matter. Or to join the angels, shepherds and kings at the crib singing Glory to God and praying for peace on earth. Every human being matters. You matter. May our Christmas Lord lift up your heart and inspire you to share that Good News in the year ahead. Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones! A brief message from Fr Eduardo The year is ending, and we are welcoming and bracing for another year 2020, trusting, hoping, believing that it will be a beautiful year, better than the previous years. Briefly but succinctly, I would like to thank each and everyone of you for the support and en- couragement you showed to me and to our parish in the years past. God bless you all. Our patron saint, St Joachim (and St Ann) watch over you and your family. I will be away from the parish from January to April this year, taking a sabbatical/ re- newal studies in Rome. A sabbatical is an official period away from current ministry and responsibility granted by the Archbishop (or Local Ordinary) for the purpose of ministerial, personal, spiritual and theological development and enrichment. This sab- batical is NOT a vacation, for which the primary purpose is rest, relaxation and recrea- tion; NEITHER a sick leave, for the primary purpose of regaining one's health; and from special studieswhich are normally of greater length and are a preparation for a distinct official post. My special reason for taking sabbatical is for study and renewal after 30 years in the ministry (ordained 27 January 1990). Please pray for me, as I do for you beloved parishioners. Fr Eduardo NB: while I am away Fr Ruwan will be the Administrator of our Parish. Do support him. I am taking this opportunity to thank all the musi- cians, choirs, Ministers of the Word and Eucha- rist, Acolytes, altar servers, Mrs Anne Hay and her team who tirelessly trained the children for the Christmas pageant. To each of you my heartfelt thanks as you all contributed to a glori- ous celebration of the birth of our Lord. - Fr Ed -
