Findings Textual Evidence
Creation of enigma.
Enigma is created in trailers of action horror films by having a scary cliff hanger so that the audience will want to watch the film as they want specific questions to be answered. The opening is very abnormal as your see monkeys in cages in an abandoned lab which creates an enigma to how they got there and why they are there. This confuses the audience and makes them want to watch the rest of the film to find out what is going on.
The opening of 28 Days Later there are monkeys in cages and men covered up in balaclavas clearly hiding their identity. This creates an enigma. A puzzle to who they are and what they are doing in a lab with monkeys who are in cages.
Introduction to characters
In this opening we aren’t introduced to any particular character, only groups of characters but not in detail. The opening of an action horror usually shows the evil scary character so the audience are aware of what is to be seen in the film and that there is a scary character disturbing either a single person or family or group of people. This creates a cliff hanger and the audience want to know who this evil character is and what do they want or what are they going to do in the film.
The opening begins with videoed footage of zombie characters who are destorying everything around them. And then it shows that these videos are replaying in a room which looks like some sort of lab. The characters are covered wearing balaclavas so we cannot idenitfy who they are.
Setting up Plot
The setting up plot starts with a disruption which is the breaking in of the lab because something wrong is going on in there.
