Welcome

Dear participant, we welcome you to the 4th Congress of Engineering, Science and

Environmental Management and the 5th International Conference of Greening of the

Industry Network which takes place from 28 to 30 October 2019 at the Institute of

Engineering in Mexico City.

The congress is organized by the Mexican Association of Engineering, Science and

Environmental Management (AMICA) which is the national chapter of the Inter-American

Association of Sanitary and Environmental Engineering (AIDIS). In this edition, it joins forces

with Greening of the Industry Network (GIN) which is an international network of

professionals in research, education, business, government and civil society organizations,

focused on issues of industrial development, environment and society, dedicated to building

a sustainable future.

We have the invaluable support of the Institute of Engineering of UNAM (II UNAM), the

University of Twente (UT) of the Netherlands, the Mexican Network of Life Cycle Analysis

(REMACV), Walmart Mexico and Central America and Tecnológico de Monterrey.

The Congress includes the most relevant topics that are currently being debated at the

national and international level, such as the generation of energy from renewable sources,

the objectives of sustainable development, climate change, sustainable water management,

or intelligent industry, among many others. The association of AMICA and GIN makes it

possible to analyze the experiences in advanced manufacturing obtained by industrialized

economies and will allow a discussion that favors sustainability.

With the slogan "Environment and Governance: Innovation for sustainability" seeks that

researchers, decision makers, officials, entrepreneurs, industrialists, teachers, students and

professionals generate a discussion and share experiences through technical-scientific work

and keynote lectures by prominent personalities in the area.

We hope that the Congress will be fruitful for you and we wish you a pleasant stay in Mexico

City.

Dra. Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo

Monday 28 October, 9:00 - 9:25 h Place: Conference Room of the Engineering Tower. North Wing She is Definitive Titular Researcher of the Institute of Engineering of the UNAM, professor

of the Postgraduate course in energy of the UNAM, member of the National System of

Researchers and of the Mexican Academy of Science. She was a member of the

Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change that in 2007 won the Nobel Peace Prize. She

is the author of more than one hundred specialized publications and two books on the topics

of energy, environment and sustainable development and has directed theses to

undergraduate, master's and doctoral students. She is currently the Head of Government of

Mexico City for the period 2018-2024.

Gregory A. Norris, PhD

Monday 28 October, 10:00 - 10:25 h Place: Conference Room of the Engineering Tower. North Wing Dr. Gregory Norris is Professor of Life Cycle Analysis at Harvard University. He is co-director

of SHINE: Sustainability and Health Initiative for Net-positive Enterprise. He is the founder

of New Earth, a nonprofit institute that develops and deploys technologies that enable

people around the world to advance sustainable development. His projects include

Earthster, a platform for product sustainability assessment and the development of the

Social Hot Spots Database, a database for assessing and quantifying social impacts.’

Prof. Dr. Hans Bressers

He is Professor of Political Studies and Environmental Policy at the University of Twente in

the Netherlands and founder of the Department of Governance and Technology for

Sustainability (CSTM), one of the departments of the Faculty of Behaviour, Management

and Social Sciences. He is also president of the Twente Water Centre. He has published

over three hundred articles, book chapters and a similar number of reports, conference

papers and presentations on policy assessment, instruments, networks and implementation,

mostly applied to environmental issues. and policies oriented to sustainability. As a PhD

advisor, he has led 50 researchers to graduation. until 2018.
