This course is designed to provide an organized training opportunity for local officials responsible for administering their local floodplain management ordinance. The course will focus on the NFIP and concepts of floodplain manage- ment, maps and studies, ordinance administration, and the relationship between floodplain management and flood insurance. Selection Criteria: Local officials responsible for administering local floodplain management ordinances, in- cluding but not limited to floodplain management administrators, building inspectors, code enforcement/zoning officers, planners, city/county managers, attorneys, engineers, and public works officials. Federal/State/ regional floodplain managers also are encouraged to attend. The course is designed for those officials with less than 3 years of floodplain management experience. Prerequisites: Prior to the course, participants must complete the following FREE tutorials: FEMA Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) tutorial (30 min). FEMA Federal Insurance Studies (FIS) tutorial (40 min). Resources: Attendees may want to download and review FEMA Publication 480 Floodplain Management Requirements: A Study Guide and Desk Reference for Local Officials” prior to the course. Continuing Education: 12 CECs for CFMs Travel Stipend Reimbursement available through the NMDHSEM for attendee transportation, room, and board based on state per diem rates and eligibility.
