With the finishing touches being applied to the building we are very close to receiving the approvals from the relevant agencies and beginning the process of moving into the building. The transition into the building may take a week or two as we relocate all the important administrative resources and operations of the College at the same time as ensuring that the College continues to run as smoothly as possible. Once again, I thank students, staff and parents for their patience as we have gone through the construction of this important building. Staffing Update The College welcomes three new members of staff this week:

Ms Katey Anstee (covering Ms Nevin-Lewis’ classes whilst she is on maternity leave);

Ms Melissa Gush (covering Mrs Dahmes’ classes whilst she is on maternity leave); and

Mrs Marion Globen (new Childcare Assistant working in the 3 Year old programme at ‘Little Tackers’).

On behalf of the Trinity community, I warmly welcome these new members of staff.

ANZAC Day This week many Trinity students from both campuses marched in the local ANZAC Day marches in Albury and Wodonga. The opportunity for our students to participate in this significant commemorative event is, in my opinion, very relevant and important. It is relevant and important for our students to have a real understanding of the sacrifices that many thousands of Australian men and women have made for their country and their families in conflicts over the last 100 years. Some Trinity students have relatives who made such sacrifices and it is wonderful to see some wear with much pride the service medals of these special people.

I thank all students for their willingness to get up on a cold autumn morning to join their classmates in these marches. Thanks must also go to the staff who assist with the march and to parents who, of course, support this opportunity by transporting their children to the march.

10 Year Anniversary Celebrations The three events planned to celebrate 10 years of operations at the College over the last weekend in May are fast approaching. Earlier this week, an email invitation was sent to parents via the email distribution list from the College database, as well as being posted to the College website.

I would encourage parents to RSVP to this invitation by the due date and to purchase their tickets to the College’s inaugural ‘Blue & Red Ball’ which will be held at the Albury Convention Centre on Saturday, 26 May.

The three events planned are:

Page 3

Newsletter Week 1, Term 2, Week Ending 27 April 2012

1. Student Performance Evening & Supper – 7:00pm, Friday, 25 May in the Multi-Purpose Hall;

2. ‘Blue & Red’ Ball – 7:00pm, Saturday, 26 May at the Albury Convention Centre

3. Chapel Service followed by a family picnic – 11:00am, Sunday, 27 May in the Multi-Purpose Hall.

Tickets for the Ball on the Saturday night are now available via the Uniform Shop at the Albury campus. People will be able to organise and book tables of 10. The price of each ticket has been set at $80 and this includes pre-dinner drinks and canapés, a lovely meal, the hire of the venue and great live music all night long! It promises to be a wonderful night for the College community to come together and to celebrate the achievements of the College’s first ten years and to enjoy a great night out!

Come along and enjoy the celebrations of a decade!

Next Monday, 30 April is the College Cross Country. Parents and friends are most welcome to come and ‘cheer on’ our runners. The details for the day’s events are included in the Sports News.

News from Mr Clark It has been four months since Olivia and I first arrived in Estes Park, where I was met by 19 Grade 4 Elementary students all with their best attempts of an Aussie G'day. This I learnt, would have to be one of the first lessons that would need to be taught. Culturally, the adjustment hasn't been too bad. Except I continually go to the passenger’s door when driving anywhere!

Each morning throughout our winter I have enjoyed ripping open the blinds hoping to see if our car has been engulfed by snow and the possibility of a snow day being called. Fortunately, I have had the invaluable experience of a snow day on one occasion.

Estes Park Elementary School is a public school which has four classes per grade level, Grades K - 5. The facilities are amazing; being a one school town it has the whole support of the small local community. So small, that when I went to introduce myself to the School Board at the local Council Chambers, I later learnt it was televised locally. Students begin school at 8.00 am and earlier in the Middle and Senior School. We're known as the Bobcats, an elusive native local cat which I hope to see only from the safety of indoors. But living as high as Mt Kosciuzsko has its advantages; we have adjusted to

Page 6

waking to elk, deer and the view of the four walls of mountains surrounding us, some up to 14000 feet.

We have just begun Quarter 4 which is a nine week term after preparing students for their TSAP exams (equivalent to Naplan). Grade 4 students had six, one hour literacy exams and next week have three, one hour maths exams. I have enjoyed the challenge of adjusting to a new curriculum, reaffirming old practices and providing new experiences, which I look forward to sharing in the future.

The good news is Richmond now has 19 new supporters.

Vacation Care

Vacation Care this term was a huge success with all our students and staff having a wonderful time!!! We had the opportunity to see the hilarious film, the Lorax; we had The Great Trinity Treasure Hunt, what a hoot!! We made our own chalk and got to use it as well as having a splashing time at the Gould Swimming Academy!!! We went on to great amounts of laughter with Laser Tag and crazy hair and face paint day. We bounced around being gymnasts at Flyaway Gymnastics as well as an activity for everyone with the computer game afternoon!! We finished the week with some crashing ten pin bowling.

Due to the miserable weather unfortunately we couldn’t have our Teddy Bear’s picnic at Oddies Playground so we went to the Library Museum and Gallery and had our picnic back at school.

All in all, it was a wonderful success. We would like to thank all the parents for their cooperation and understanding with regard to the weather and we hope to see you all again next holidays!!!

For anyone who would like their children to become involved in the next holidays, applications will come out a few weeks before end of term and the program will be running from 16 - 20 July. Please watch this space for more information.

We would also like to say that any donations that could be made to After School Care and Vacation Care are always welcome and most appreciated.

Music News - Albury

Jazz Band On Tuesday 17 April, the Trinity Jazz Band provided the music for the Civic Service which opened the Albury & District War Widows’ Guild Anzac Field of Remembrance. The ceremony was held in QEII Square Albury and was organised by Fr Peter McLeod-Miller from St Matthew's Anglican Church Albury. It was very impressive to see these students give their time freely and generously in their holidays. Greg Aplin (Member for Albury) personally thanked our Trinity students for their efforts and commented on how their contribution enhanced the ceremony.

Thank you to the parents that enabled the following students to be involved in representing the College at the service; Georgina Luke, Keagan Day, Clare McGrath, Laura Thomas, Kate Lowe, Toby Richards, Shani Collins, Greg Andronikos, Cameron Wilson, Ryan Warden, Caroline Lowe, Gideon Dionysius. Our vice captains Kate Thomas and Justin King were also involved in the proceedings, laying a wreath on behalf of the College.
