Examining the commercial, political and economic landscape for carbon abatement
“There is a need for policy development on climate change which will take into account the business need to remain competitive. The Carbon Abatement Forum offers an opportunity for this discussion.”
Tennant Reed Principal National Adviser Australian Industry Group
“Australia needs to get moving on climate change as the modernisation and decarbonisation program picks up pace around the world. The Carbon Abatement Forum will be a timely forum for a discussion on some of the issues and the strategies to prevent us from being laggards on climate policy.”
John Connor Chief Executive Officer Climate Institute
Hear what the speakers are saying about the event:“It is critical that we get the design and implementation of market mechanisms for abatement just right. As policy evolves and the Australian market becomes engaged it is important to make sure that regulation is reasoned and informed with business insight.”
Cameron Reid Carbon and Renewable Policy Manager AGL
Climate Change policy remains at the forefront of public policy with negotiations at the international level over a new Global Climate Agreement (Paris December 2015) and domestically implementation of key elements of Direct Action such as the Emissions Reduction Fund. Increasing we also see State Governments looking to raise involvement in this area. It will be important for all participants at this forum who are potentially impacted by climate change policy to keep abreast of developments and likely critical decision points into the future.
AlexGosman Chief Executive Officer Australian Industry Greenhouse Network
Post-conference full-day in-depth learning sessions – Thursday 29 OctoberRegistration and morning coffee for both sessions is at 08.30 and sessions will conclude at 17.00. Lunch, morning and afternoon tea provided. Choose between:
In-depth Learning Session A:Assessingtheregulatoryimpactofclimatechangeonindustryand business to implement effective mitigation and abatement
This interactive learning session will assess the regulatory and compliance imperatives for greenhouse gas mitigation and climate change. Senior managers in charge of sustainability, carbon policy, climate and environment will explore the nature, scope and breadth of the national, state and regional regulatory landscape. They will examine the underpinnings for compliance, management and governance, as well as the implications for organisational planning and climate strategy. They will discuss the development of a consolidated framework in which boards and executive managers can develop a robust approach to climate change adaptation governance and climate change strategy.
Keytopicsandtakeawayskills/benefits:• Examine climate change regulations landscape and evaluate the frameworks for compliance and governance
• Leverage effective community engagement and consultation and examine the linkages between social licence and abatement to drive effective external stakeholder engagement
• Understand how to secure environmental approval, implement management and rehabilitation in a carbon abatement framework to strengthen an effective abatement strategy
• Evaluate the potential impact of post Paris abatement commitments and integrating the strategies for climate change into the organisational plan

In-depth Learning Session B:Developingamulti-pronged,multi-dimensionalstrategy forlandmanagementforGHGabatement
This full day session has been designed specifically for operations, strategy and environment managers in organisations with a large land base and for departments developing policy for them. It will examine the relationship between land management and climate change and the development, adaptation and mitigation policies to reduce their impact on emissions. Against this backdrop the participants then examine and learn the strategies for land management and mitigation of climate impacts and analyse the economic opportunities and mechanisms for agriculture and forestry abatement. Participants work on a multi-pronged, multi-dimensional that integrates emerging trends and emerging innovations in agricultural and forest abatement strategies.
Keytopicsandtakeawayskills/benefits:• Assessthecommercialopportunitiesandspatialprioritiesforcarbonsequestration and biodiversity restoration through biodiverse carbon plantings
• Learnhowtomaximisetheearningopportunitiesofferedbybio-sequestrationand carbon farming initiatives
• Modelagriculturalemissions, landscapecarbonsequestrationpotentialandthe value of agricultural production
