Lord God of peace, hear our prayer!

We have tried so many times and over so many years to resolve our conflicts by our own powers and by the force of our arms. How many moments of hostility and darkness have we experienced; how much blood has been shed; how many lives have been shattered; how many hopes have been buried… But our efforts

have been in vain.

Now, Lord, come to our aid! Grant us peace, teach us peace; guide our steps in the way of peace. Open our eyes and our hearts, and give us the courage to say: “Never again War!”; “With war everything is lost”. Instill in our hearts the courage to take concrete steps

to achieve peace.

Lord, God of Abraham, God of the Prophets, God of Love, you created us and you call us to live as broth-

ers and sisters. Give us the strength daily to be instru-ments of peace; enable us to see everyone who cross-es our path as our brother or sister. Make us sensitive to the plea of our citizens who entreat us to turn our

weapons of war into implements of peace, our trepida-tion into confident trust, and our quarreling into for-

giveness.

Keep alive within us the flame of hope, so that with patience and perseverance we may opt for dialogue

and reconciliation. In this way, may peace triumph at last, and may the words “division”, “hatred” and

“war” be banished from the heart of every man and woman. Lord, defuse the violence of our tongues and our hands. Renew our hearts and minds, so that the

word which always brings us together will be “brother”, and our way of life will always be that of:

Już niedługo rozpocznie się październik, miesiąc szczególnie poświęcony modlitwie różańcowej. Jak co ro-ku będziemy się spotykań na wspólnej modlitwie w piątki o godzinie 7 PM. Ale przecież nic nie stoi na przeszkodzie, by codziennie modlić się na różańcu razem, w gronie rodziny, w naszych domach, gdzie wielokrotnie wizerunek Najświętszej Maryi Panny zajmuje ważne miejsce. W naszym biuletynie parafialnym będziemy w tym miesiącu przybliżać nauczanie Papieża Jana Pawła II o tej pięknej modlitwie. Dziś pierwszy fragment listu apostolskiego Rosarium Virginis Mariae z 2002 roku.

Różaniec Najświętszej Maryi Panny

Różaniec Najświętszej Maryi Panny, który pod tchnieniem Ducha Bożego rozwinął się stopniowo w drugim tysiącleciu, to modlitwa umiłowana przez licznych świętych, a Urząd Nauczycielski Kościoła często do niej zachęca. W swej prostocie i głębi pozostaje ona również w obecnym trzecim tysiącleciu, które dopiero co się zaczęło, modlitwą o wielkim znaczeniu, przynoszącą owoce świętości. Jest ona dobrze osadzona wduchowości chrześcijaństwa, które - po dwóch tysiącach lat - nic nie straciło ze swej pierwotnej świeżości i czuje, że Duch Boży pobudza je do „wypłynięcia na głębię”, by opowiadać światu, a nawet 'wołać' o Chrystusie jako Panu i Zbawicielu, jako „drodze, prawdzie i życiu” , jako „celu historii ludzkiej, punkcie, ku któremu zwracają się pragnienia historii i cywilizacji”. Różaniec bowiem, choć ma charakter maryjny, jest modlitwą o sercu chrystologicznym. W powściągliwości swych elementów skupia wsobie głębię całego przesłania ewangelicznego, którego jest jakby streszczeniem. W nim odbija się echem modlitwa Maryi, Jej nieustanne Magnificat za dzieło odkupieńcze Wcielenia, rozpoczęte wJej dziewiczym łonie. Przez różaniec lud chrześcijański niejako wstępuje do szkoły Maryi, dając się wprowadzić w kontemplację piękna oblicza Chrystusa i w doświadczanie głębi Jego miłości. Za pośrednic-twem różańca wierzący czerpie obfitość łaski, otrzymując ją niejako wprost z rąk Matki Odkupiciela.

Papieże a różaniec 2. Wielkie znaczenie tej modlitwy podkreślali liczni moi Poprzednicy. Szczególne zasługi miał w tym względzie Leon XIII, który 1 września 1883 roku ogłosił Encyklikę Supremi apostolatus officio; tą uroczystą wypowiedzią zapocząt-kował serię wielu innych, które poświęcił tej modlitwie, wskazując ją jako skuteczne narzędzie duchowe wobec bolą-czek społeczeństwa. Wśród Papieży nowszych czasów, którzy wyróżnili się wpromowaniu różańca, pragnę wspo-mnieć bł. JanaXXIII i przede wszystkim Pawła VI, który w Adhortacji apostolskiej Marialis cultus podkreślił, zgodnie z inspiracją Soboru Watykańskiego II, ewangeliczny charakter różańca i jego ukierunkowanie chrystologiczne. Ja sam również nie pomijałem okazji, by zachęcać do częstego odmawiania różańca. Od mych lat młodzień-czych modlitwa ta miała ważne miejsce w moim życiu duchowym. Przypomniała mi o tym z mocą moja niedawna podróż do Polski, a przede wszystkim odwiedziny Sanktuarium w Kalwarii. Różaniec towarzyszył mi wchwilach ra-dości i doświadczenia. Zawierzyłem mu wiele trosk. Dzięki niemu zawsze doznawałem otuchy. Dwadzieścia cztery lata temu, 29 października 1978 roku, zaledwie w dwa tygodnie po wyborze na Stolicę Piotrową, tak mówiłem, nieja-ko otwierając swe serce: różaniec „to modlitwa, którą bardzo ukochałem. Przedziwna modlitwa! Przedziwna w swej prostocie i głębi zarazem. Można powiedzieć, że różaniec staje się jakby modlitewnym komentarzem do ostatniego rozdziału Konstytucji Vaticanum II Lumen gentium, mówiącego o przedziwnej obecności Bogarodzicy w tajemnicy Chrystusa i Kościoła. Oto bowiem na kanwie słów Pozdrowienia Anielskiego przesuwają się przed oczyma naszej duszy główne momenty z życia Jezusa Chrystusa. Układają się one w całokształt tajemnic radosnych, bolesnych i chwalebnych. Jakbyśmy obcowali z Panem Jezusem poprzez -można by powiedzieć - Serce Jego Matki. Równocze-śnie zaś w te same dziesiątki różańca serce nasze może wprowadzić wszystkie sprawy, które składają się na życie człowieka, rodziny, narodu, Kościoła, ludzkości. Sprawy osobiste, sprawy naszych bliźnich, zwłaszcza tych, którzy nam są najbliżsi, tych, o których najbardziej się troszczymy. W ten sposób ta prosta modlitwa różańcowa pulsuje nie-jako życiem ludzkim” Tymi słowami, drodzy Bracia i Siostry, wprowadzałem pierwszy rok mego pontyfikatu w codzienny rytm różańca. Dziś, na początku dwudziestego piątego roku posługi jako Następca Piotra, pragnę uczynić to samo. Ileż łask otrzymałem w tych latach od Najświętszej Dziewicy poprzez różaniec. Magnificat anima mea Dominum! Pragnę wznosić dziękczynienie Panu słowami Jego Najświętszej Matki, pod której opiekę złożyłem moją posługę Piotrową: Totus tuus! (za tydzień kolejna część listu.) Pamiętajmy o tym, by codziennie, szczególnie w październiku, odmawiać różaniec!
