"O you who believe! Avoid much suspicion, indeed some suspicions are sins. And spy not, neither backbite one another. Would one of you like to eat the flesh of

his dead brother?

You would hate it . And fear GOD. Verily, GOD is the One Who accepts repentance,

Most Merciful." Quran49:12

There is nothing more dreadful than the habit of doubt. Doubt separates people. It is a poison that disintegrates friendships and breaks up pleasant relations. It is a thorn that irritates and hurts; it is a sword that kills. Buddha

It is ignorance that smothers, and it is carelessness that makes it invisible. The hunger of craving pollutes the world, and the pain of suffering causes the greatest fear. Buddha

Let us go to Basics The very Fabric of our Society

Let us Examine if the Great Teachers of our Religions give us a Clue as to How to live in a Multicultural Society

Let us examine what we can learn from the four great Religions

Hinduism- Buddhism- Christianity- Islam and see how we can adoptIt in our day to day lives:

One early morning some 2010 years ago, when a Rabi (Jewish Priest)was at the Temple, a group of people

started to say master master we have caught her in the act! He did not reply and was walking away. They persistently followed him and asserted that she must be punished as per the Book, and therefore she should be stoned to death. As it appeared that they wanted Justice done as per their interpretation of the Law,The Rabi bent down and picked a stone and gave it and said ,whoever is sinless may cast the first stone.

03

Page 7: 26 social responsibility

Then he immediately went down again and started to write in the sand.

The crowd who brought the helpless women one by one peeped over the Rabi's shoulder and quietly walked away!!! St. John chapter 8 verse 4-8

Why walk away? Perhaps the Rabi whom they called Master must have written their very names! Implying that he knew that these men too have committed the very same crime of adultry.

Lesson: Don't try to take the Law to your own hands, as it is highly specialized and need to be applied equitably if justice is to be done. There could be some members in this crowd who might have wanted to take revenge from this women or place the Rabi in an embarrassing position with the law of the Country-Yes we are speaking of Jesus Christ (pbuh) as per the Holy Bible. note as the situation was tense and needed an equitable solution the superb mastery of MANAGEMENT.

1. He spoke very brief and a heart piercing truth;

2. Attention seeking body movement ;

3. Secret Message to READ!

finally got everyone of them to read

what he wrote about (only him)

so they UNDERSTOOD and yet

4. Not humiliated by not making

“their character” Public!!!!

Immediate Action Possible: Always press for Justice, adhere to the Law. Don't be the Judge. There could always be three sides to a story.

The aggressor,

The aggrieved,

The Wisdom for Peace and to prevent Creating mischief in the Land. (Patience of aggrieved reqd.)

Coming to Hinduism: One of the ancient Scriptures The Bagawad Geetha1:1-2,2:34-37 Gives a detailed account of a war between Kith and Kin Lord Arjun refuses to battle his cousins, and prefers to die. Lord Krishna advices him to Fight as this is for a just cause although it is against his very own family members.Lesson: For Justice to Prevail, Blood Relationship or

Other Consideration even Political cannot stand in the way.

Immediate Action Possible: Perhaps stop the barbaric ragging at Universities; Stop bullies at school; and offices etc. Readily accept our mistakes and don't find ways

to pass the buck. Don't try to hide under the legal system, but look

at Justice in a equitable way. Even with Family Justice must be done, (but kind and help them during the difficult period, )

Explain the need for a unbiased Justice System

Approximately 2550 years ago Lord Buddha made this Powerful statement:

Do not believe in anything (simply)

because you have heard it.

Do not believe in anything because it

is spoken and rumored by many|

Do not believe in anything merely on the

authority of your teachers and elders. But after observation and analysis when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of all then accept it and live up to it. Buddha (Anguttara Nikaya Vol. 1, 188-193 P.T.S. Ed.).Kalama Suttra

L e s s o n : D O N O T A C T U P O N R U M O U R S . Check its Validty; Act only if it is Beneficial to All

Immediate Action Possible: Do not gossip based on what you hear or read or even what you SEE!!.I f you can do something resulting in benefit to all, then investigate, analyze before action is taken.

Lastly let us look at Islam

According to the sayings of Prophet:

Faith has over seventy branches , the most excellent of which is the declaration that there is only one Creator of all that exists, and the humblest of which is the, removal of what is injurious from the path:. Muslim bk1 Hadith56:

It means there is an Uncreated (no beginning or end), that creates Everything. The Uncreated does not visit the creation but with infinite knowledge, power etc knows everything including the present past and future of created things and is beyond our imagination This is the highest of faith.

Lesson: FIRST PART OF FAITH TO MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE TO LIVE ,

Removing any obstacles that can beremoved by us that are a hindranceto others in the society we live in.

In today's World of Secularism, it isimperative to seek solutions to problems

through the same rational way of ModernGovernments and Society and where

required look into the Religious Scripturesof the various Faiths.

Terrorism, Unrest, Mistrust all arise mainlybecause we take little action to preventMischief, and Rumours from spreading.

Peace and Progress can only envelope theWorld if each Individual, Society, Faith,

Culture, Government take responsibility toPrevent Mischief in Every Form
