SPF (Spiritual Physical Fitness) SPF
Welcome to Temple Anshe Amunim! Whether this is your first visit, your second home, or your life-long residence, we’re happy you’re here. Summer really is great in the Berkshires. From the Tanglewood
lawn (p. 9 and p. 11) to our mountains and trails (p. 6), to finding
a quiet moment (p. 6 and p. 18) or studying and socializing (p. 5,
6, 17... and more!), there’s so much to do at Temple and beyond.
I’m particularly thrilled to introduce Spiritual Physical Fitness, or SPF - a new way to experience Shabbat (p. 6). Come hike, meditate, or learn with us this summer. At the conclusion of the summer, we’ll begin a year-long
celebration of Temple Anshe Amunim’s 150th year. We look forward to sharing this significant milestone with you, beginning on August 18 (p. 19). There’s so much more to see and do, so I’ll let you get started.
And if you don’t see something or want to find a time to connect, I hope you will! I look forward to hiking, meditating, praying, singing, learning,
listening, and summer-ing with you!
L’shalom, Rabbi Liz P.G. Hirsch

PLAY ANALYSIS GROUP: In Fascism's Grip Tuesdays, July 9, 16, 23, 30 at 10:00am in the TAA library Dr. Barbara Waldinger will lead discussion and analysis of two plays. The first two sessions of the class will focus on Bertolt Brecht's “The Private Life of the Master Race”, the first of Brecht's anti-Nazi works. It premiered in Paris in 1938, during Brecht's exile from Germany. We will be reading several of the short plays contained within this depiction of life in 1930s Germany under National Socialism. In the second half of the course we will read and discuss Michael Frayn's “Copenhagen,” which premiered in London in 1998, on Broadway in 2000, and became a BBC film in 2002. Based on a 1941 meeting in Copenhagen between the Nobel Prize-winning physicists Niels Bohr (a Danish Jew) and Werner Heisenberg (a German), this play takes place after their deaths as their spirits (and that of Bohr's wife, Margrethe) come to grips with what happened at that meeting and its influence on the development of the atom bomb. $40 for members (all 4 sessions) $45 for not-yet-members (all 4 sessions) $15 per session
