    1.1 Introduction

    The application is based on the Configuration and Use of the Mobile Panel 277FIWLAN application description. This is where you have already been introduced tothe individual configuration steps for creating a Mobile Panel 277F IWLAN project.

    It is the aim of this application to get familiar with the Roaming function and itsapplication.

    Note Whenever the mobile panel is mentioned in this document it relates to the MobilePanel 277F IWLAN V2.

    1.2 Overview of the automation task

    The figure below provides an overview of the automation task.

    A plant section (packing station) consists of several

    stations (conveyor belts 1 to 3), that are spatially far apart.Via a Mobile Panel 277F IWLAN all stations are to be operated and monitored.Smooth and secure operation of the individual stations through the Mobile Panel277F IWLAN has to be guaranteed.

    Required knowledge

    The basic knowledge of the Configuration and Use of the Mobile Panel 277FIWLAN application description is assumed.

    2.2 Description of the core functionality

    The core functionality is the communication between the mobile panel and severalaccess points that are in a network.It is possible to change from one access point to another access point withoutprevious logoff or new logon.

    The mobile panel communicates is expanded byiPCF-MC (industrial Point Coordination Function with Management Channel)WLAN access procedure also called Rapid Roaming.

    Rapid Roaming is used for interruption-free transfer of radio signals and providesrapid transfer of radio signals between the access points and the mobile panel abasic requirement for mobile solutions for operating and monitoring in safety-relevant areas where enabling and emergency stop buttons are used.

    3 BasicsThis chapter contains information regarding Roaming with iPCF-MC andapplicable WLAN standards.

    3.1 iPCF-MC concept

    For failsafe applications the mobile panel communicates through the expandedWLAN access procedure iPCF-MC(industrial Point Coordination Function with Management Channel).

    The data communication is performed on the so called data channel (in PCFmethod).The coordination of the communication is performed on the so calledmanagement channel.

    The figures below are to illustrate the iPCF-MC concept.

    There are as many data channels (here 36; 40; 44) as there are access pointsand one joint management channel (here 48).

    Each access point (AP) sends so called beacons (approx. every 5ms) to themanagement channel.The clients (in this application the mobile panel) receive information regarding the

    reception quality and the number of the data channel to all the access points ofthe network in reach within a very short time.

    AP: Access Point

    An access point (AP) sends a beacon at regular intervals. This beacon containsinformation regarding the signal strength, SSID of the access point and the channelsettings of the data channel.

    These beacons are evaluated by the mobile panel.

    The mobile panel regularly changes from the data channel to the managementchannel and evaluates the received beacons.

    In this case the beacon of access point 1 (AP1) is the strongest=> no roaming.

    The mobile panel is now closer to access point 2 (AP2).With the next change to the management channel the beacon of

    access point 2 is stronger. => roaming on access point 2.

    iPCF-MC general conditions

    For the operation of iPCF-MC the following general conditions are required:

    at least three unused non-overlapping channels are required

    the management channel must not be operated on 802.11h (radar detection!)

    management channel and data channel must be precisely overlapped:

    both must either be in 2.4 GHz band or in 5 GHz band

    with the access point, WLAN1 and WLAN2 have to be equipped with thesame antennas

    Channel assignment for extensive plants

    When configuring the data channel, ensure that the addresses of neighboring datachannels do not overlap.

    4 Configuration ProcessThe chapters that follow describe the required settings and configurations for thecommunication between the access points and the mobile panel.

    4.1 Preparatory measures for the configuration

    Before you start with the configuration, determine the addresses of the individualhardware components.

    4.1.1 IP addresses

    Define the IP addresses of the individual Ethernet nodes.The following table lists the IP addresses and the MAC addresses used for theapplication.

    The settings are necessary for each configuration. Only the respective addresseshave to be adjusted (see chapter4.2.4).

    4.2.1 Assigning the IP address for the SCALANCE W788-2RR

    If you have not yet assigned an IP address to the SCALANCE W788-2RR, follow

    the instructions listed in the table below.Table 4-2

    2. Open the SIMATIC Manager.

    3. Setting the PG/PC interface:

    Select theOptions > Set PG/PC Interface menucommand and set the PG/PC interface toEthernet.

    Select thePLC > Edit Ethernet Node... menu command.

    TheEdit Ethernet Node dialog box opens.

    5. Select the Browse button. The Browse Network dialog box opens.

    Now all available nodes on the Ethernetnetwork are displayed.

    6. Select the MAC address of your SCALANCEW788-2RR and confirm it by selecting OK.

    7. Select the MAC address of your SCALANCEW788-2RR and confirm it by selecting OK.

    The Browse Network dialog box closes andthe Edit Ethernet Node dialog box opens.

    8. In Set IP Configuration, you can now specifythe IP address and the subnet mask.

    In this example172.16.34.200255.255.0.0

    9. Then click on the Assign IP Configurationbutton.

    The data is transferred.

    10. In Assign Device Name, you can specify adevice name.

    In this example"CS3-Network-011"

    11. Then click on the Assign name button. The data is transferred.

    Note Instead of the SIMATIC Manager, you can also use PST (Primary Setup Tool).

    4.2.2 Configuring the SCALANCE W788-2RR via the WEB

    Once you have assigned an IP address to the SCALANCE W788-2RR, you can

    access the home page of the W788-2RR (Web Based Management) using a webbrowser and perform the parameterization.

    If you do not know the username or the current password, it is recommendedthat the SCALANCE W788-2RR is initially reset to factory settings. For this reset,please note the information in the SCALANCE W788-2RR (Link) configurationmanual.

    Note The configuration of the individual access points are essentially the same.What parameters have to be adjusted accordingly can be found under thefollowing Link.

    Selecting frequency range for the transponder

    In the control panel under the OP Properties dialog, Transponder tab, you canspecify through which channel (frequency range) the operator panel communicates

    9. System Restart:

    In the System > Restart folder, you canuse the Restart WLAN button to restart thesystem.

    The changes you have made becomeeffective after a restart.

    10. Saving or loading the configuration:

    In the System > Load&Save > HTTPfolder, you can save the configuration on your

    mobile panel or on a USB stick at any time orload a previously saved setting back.

    1. Make sure that all access points (SCALANCEW788-2RR) have been configured.

    2. Make sure that the WLAN configuration of themobile panel 277F IWLAN is complete.

    3. Check the LEDs on the mobile panel.

    Once all WLAN settings are ok, the COMLED on the mobile panel has to light uppermanently.

    If this is not the case, check the WLANsettings on the SCALANCE W788-2RR or the

    mobile panel.

    4. Make sure that the STEP 7 configuration(standard and F program) was transferred andthe PLC is in RUN mode.

    5. The SAFE LED lights up when the mobilepanel is integrated in the safety program of

    the F-CPU.

    Continue with the operation of the mobilepanel.
