The role also involves supporting the management team with staff management; recording and monitoring staff performance and escalating where necessary; making sure the learning environment and activities are tailored around the children's needs and interests on the day; having an input in the setting’s development plan and meeting targets.

Playroom Supervisor – Bank Staff

The Brighton Unemployed Centre Families Project (BUCFP) is to support the people of Brighton and Hove who are unwaged and low-waged. We offer cheap meals, laundry facilities, computer facilities, courses, advice about housing and benefits and a loan scheme for baby equipment. We also offer Parent/Family support and quality childcare and education.

Our Ofsted registered ‘playroom’ setting follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and offers free drop in places for the children of our centre users and funded 2 year places. Parents can volunteer or take part in free or low cost activities while their children are in the playroom which is run by a qualified Early Years Teachers and team of staff who have been checked by the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) and work as volunteers. Parents/carers must stay on the premises while their children are in the playroom unless they have a 2 year funded place.

We are looking for qualified Early Years Practitioners who would like to join our team as bank staff to supervise the playroom sessions on a casual, self-employed basis. Sometimes sessions will be booked in advance and sometimes could be last minute. All applicants must have a Level 3 qualification in Early Years Practice; must be able to demonstrate good teamwork, literacy and communication skills; must have experience in supervising or managing a team; have up to date knowledge of child development, the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum and of safeguarding.

The role is to ensure children's safety and wellbeing and to ensure their needs are met at all times, alongside supporting the work of our volunteers and leading good practice. Duties will include being responsible for setting up and clearing away the learning environment; contributing towards planning, observational practice, record keeping and working in accordance with the playrooms policies and practice and key working where appropriate. At every session we have a paid playroom supervisor and a paid ‘second’ who supports the supervisor along with a team of volunteers.

We are seeking a professional, motivated Early Years Senior Practitioner to join our pre-school team at our setting in New Church Road, Hove.

Applicants must have experience of working with children aged 2 to 5 years; a minimum Level 3 qualification in early years and childcare; GCSE minimum grade C in English and Maths or equivalent; excellent organisational skills, excellent knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) good ICT (Information and Communications Technology) skills, excellent communication skills, the ability to work as part of a team and share information with colleagues, parents and outside agencies. An understanding of the Reggio Emilia approach is desired but not essential as training will be given. Paediatric first aid and child protection training is also desired but not essential.

The successful candidate will work as a practitioner as part of our Pre-school team; will provide high quality care and learning to our youngest children; be responsible for a group of key children - writing observations, planning next steps, writing termly reports and liaising with parents to maintain our high standards and ensuring that the EYFS and required policies and procedures are followed. Other duties include providing a variety of activities indoors and outdoors; using an online system called ‘Interactive Learning Diary’ to document children’s individual progress & to plan appropriate next steps and liaising with parents, colleagues and other staff members. The role will also require the successful candidate to run the pre-school room in the absence of the room leader and to support the room leader on a daily basis.

All staff are expected to attend regular team meetings and are encouraged to attend training opportunities and to progress in their career.
